I never found Swans to be miserable. Bleak yeah but not miserable. Same with Khanate.

Elizabeth Anka Vajagic - With hopes lost
I don't think anyone can find a song that's more miserable. (and beautiful)

For those that are interested - the tracklisting runs as follows:
Ornette: Lonely Woman Hank - The Funeral TG - Hamburger Lady Cash - I see a Darkness Queen - who wants to live forever C93 (bpb) - Idumea Low - In metal Reed - the Kids MCR - early sunsets... Abba - the winner takes it all Merle Travis - Little streams of whiskey [s2] The pipes and drums and military band of the Scottish Division - amazing grace Diamanda - The thrill is gone Kenny - Lucille Dresden Dolls - Bad Habit The Dubliners - The Auld Triangle Spiritualized - Broken Heart Carpenters - Goodbye to Love Reed - Vanishing Act Erasure - Hideaway The Fall - the Acute Dolly Parton - Down from Dover Leadbelly - Goodnight Irene. So thanks for all your contributions, none of which I've paid attention to. HOWEVER thanks. Knox, I'll certainly be looking into her more, and others, yeah, thanks.

I dont think that Cash version of I See a Darkness fits the misera-bill at all. I thinks its quite defiant. If i were going for a Cash cover id go for If You Could read my mind or (yes, i know) Hurt.
We could stick several other Caprenters songs in there too. All your women things by Smog has always served to grind me down Piglet by Arab Strap Endless Plain of fortune by John Cale

The Cash choice is more about the person receiving the tape than the song itself. Otherwise it'd be Ira Hayes.

I have, didn't like it so much to be honest. I have more Cash albums than any person could reasonably want, I think I've overdone it with him.

This is a fair point - unfortunately, I couldn't find a lot of that sort of fair in Glice towers. I think a lot of the compilations that they'd be on would've been lent to a certain pianist who really needs to stop sequestering records of mine amongst his.
