I like to think of it this way.....if kids are too busy playing violent video games and whatnot, they can't be outside getting gacks planted in their ass or stabbing a nigga for scuffing their pumas

My whole thing is, video games have been violent for 15 or so years. And there are about 5 fucktard violent kids who have done something violent and said, "Duh, I like video gamz." So, yeah.. What's the big deal now? Is it because games are more "realistic" now? It's still just fucking polygons. Turn on the news: ACTUAL DEATH, ACTUAL WAR, talked about 24/7. Not to mention that anything you want to see -- suicide, murder, whatever -- is a click away on the internet. Here, let's do a study: Let's have 5 children watch video game characters get killed for an hour.. then, let's have 5 children watch ACTUAL DEATHS for an hour. Let's see which group's more fucked up. In fact, they've probably done a study like this, and some Sigmund Fraud jackass will probably go, "UM, WELL, WHEN VIDEO GAMES FEATURED KIDS KILLING THE CHRACTERS, WE FOUND THAT THEIR PULSE RATES WENT UP AND UH.." So, yeah, the whole idea of kids "controlling" the action and "killing" is what disturbs people. But guess what? Most fucking kids can handle it. And if they can't, it's the parent's goddamn responsibility to make sure of it. I'm pretty sure any RESPONSIBLE parent knows if their fuckign kid can play a game. I know the hardest of the hardcore fucking Christian parents that let their 13 year old play Grand Theft auto -- not because they approve of it, but they're open-minded enough (which is shocking, since they're of the Christian faith) to know that he can play games and it not affect him negatively at all.

There are tons more benefits to playing video games... quicker reaction time, better reflexes, more knowledge... it's the same thing as playing music.. you could make the argument, "Kids shouldn't play guitar cuz one day they'll snort cocaine, fuck whores, and hit people in the head with their guitar!" If it's going to happen, it's going to happen; you can't blame a PRODUCT for the person's insanity.

what it does is desensitize children very early to violence and graphic gore. we will see the results of this in ten or twenty years. you'll see.

Kids of today are continuously bombarded with shitloads of information
telling them what to buy, or how to act, etc.
They have to compete a lot more with their peers than I ever did as a teen.
Pressured by a decadent and greedy society, some of them get frustrated with themselves
for not living up to their expectations, and go on the rampage.

Video games are nothing compared to the world they live in and have to deal with every day.

Correct. Most kids play games as a means of escaping the nightmare of growing up in this day and age.

there is no difference between now and the last 100 years. TV was gonna corrupt kids. radio was gonna corrupt kids, the fucking charleston was gonna coprrupt kids.

i think kids today ahve it far far easier than the kids that had to grow up during and between world war I and world war II

at least the kids then didn't have to worry about governments releasing genetically engineered virii and launching & detonating nuclear weapons in the atmosphere (thus destroying it) or shuttle launches with plutonium batteries that if they explode would make the planet uninhabitable for 100,000 years and of course shuttles have never exploded - or sex is a death sentence or you go to jail for getting defending yourself against bullies or smoking a cigarette - oh yeah its great world out there...

Please! Most of their parents are in dept, oil prices have skyrocketed , and our economies aren't doing wonders. Nothing to boast about.

Asia is where it's at in the 21st century.

It would be absurd to compare those times with today.
Besides, kids in those days relied a lot more on adults to solve their problems.

tokolosh, get OUT OF HERE! read some fucking history man~!

most "kids" in 1920 were working full time by age 14. only the very few were lucky or fortunate enough to go to higher education.
compare that to the USA where most kids go to college of some kind,a nd most of the lie at home with their parents leeching off of them well into their twenties.

shit man. kids today have it EASY

As if child labour doesn't exist in third world countries to this today.

I'm saying that it's EXPECTED of them to be a lot more independent at such an early age.

those third world nations youy mention are also not a hotbed of kids and teens spending hours playing $400 video game consoles their momas bought them. your point is MOOT

and how exactly are kids expected to be independent in the western world? parents micro manage the kids schedules. kids have nothing to do BUT play video games man!
