The Gold Rush is so funny. All in all it's one of the best things I've ever seen.

ha ha. sorta. but you'll noticed i allowed national lampoon's vacation, caddyshack, ben-hur and other non-elitist works (including willy wonka) to stand uncriticized. my problem with forrest gump is that it's such a shit movie though. i mean complete crap. it has no redeeming value. it squeezes tears out of its audience like a fucking milking machine. ideologically, it's pure trash. and i hate that limp cockface actor, whats his name, tom something, tom-- tom fuckface-- the idiot from "big". fuck him. yeah i hate forrest gump with all the blackness of my heart. worst fucking movie ever. (ben hur i didn't bother because of that fucking horserace. otherwise hollywood sword and sandal crap can kiss my scrotum. like cleopatra or the ten commandments. and ESPECIALLY spartacus. i hate what kirk douglas did with kubrik-- yikes-- i rather have the italian b movies) |

now a random list of shit people really shouldn't miss because they are awesome life-changing movies
fellini's "la strada" and "la dolce vita" antonioni's "blowup" kubrick's "clockwork orange" "dr strangelove" and "barry lyndon" (these are studies in character and character is what makes movies "life changing"-- sure the shining is awesome but it's just a good show). chaplin "modern times" sam fuller "the big red one", "the naked kiss" and "shock corridor" sam peckinpah "the wild bunch" "bring me the head of alfredo garcia" "pat garrett and billy the kid" "the cross of iron" shit im not going to post everything. too much good stuff. i quit. lately, movies written by charlie kaufman are at the very top of our times... but fuck zach braff and his shitty, poorly written, ridiculously acted "garden state", i don't give a shit how much it reminds you of your life, your life can't suck that bad and certainly could fit a better screenplay than that dismal trash. |

Go get a big bowl, preferably one that you would fill with popcorn if Forrest Gump were the kind of movie you could sit down and watch without simultaneously triggering your gag reflex. I feel your pain. I, too, hate that god-awful excuse for a movie.

Hey, ok, This is not a "favorite" movie list. This is a list of movies that one should see. Admittedly, some of them are my favorites. But, Gump is not one of them. I just feel that everyone should see it at least once. I also could have included some real crap movies that should be watched just for sheer hilarity, but I didn't because I wanted to hit the high points and some movies that just catch me. Forrest Gump being one of those I saw in an 80-year old single screen movie house the weekend before it was demolished.
EDIT: Also pay no attention to the order, I just added them as I went along. No thought in planning the order.

But obviously, if I think the movie is crap, I'm going to disagree with its placement on any list entitled "Movies to see before you die." And if it's not even one of your favorites, why would you want people to see it, even once? Perhaps so they can better appreciate movies that are actually good? I'm trying as hard as I can to see this from your perspective.

Any of you seen the Australian film titled: 'Chopper'?
It's good. Very good infact. I suggest it.

I just felt compelled to put it on there. I just feel everyone needs to see it at least once. Good. Bad. or Indifferent. It's like being stuck somewhere you don't speak the language and your trying to ask for directions. Some people like that. Some people hate it. But everyone should experience it at least once. I am yet again speaking from experiece. I don't speak Italian yet, I managed to navigate myself and about 6 others throught Florence for an entire day. I loved it. Some hated it. But still, it was an experience that everyone should have.
