they should define songwriter, what's the difference between a real, all around songwriter and a lyricist, arranger, composer, etc.?

because some of the people in their are good in one of those areas but suck on others and that doesn't make them good songwriters, now does it?

Where is Laurie Anderson?

Are you sure the list wasn't from Paste Eater magazine?

The placement of the following three in the forties renders the whole list suspect, although, yeah, it could have been worse.

41. Ray Davies (he's number two or number one)
44. Al Green (easily in the top 20)
46. David Byrne (easily in the top 10)

David Bowie & Lou Reed should be higher on the list.

65. Bill Mallonee (used to live next door to me once - originally from Athens band Vigilantes of Love)

91. Drive-By Truckers
It's cool that Patterson Hood gets a mention although there's no love for Andrew Reiger of Elf Power, or even Jeff Mangum, which is a bummer.

The list makes no mention of Syd Barrett although Pink Floyd is listed. The listmakers probably think "Learning to Fly" is more well-written than "Arnold Layne".
