Gots to promote, cuz the black radio won't play him.

One of most underrated MCs of all time, probably should have made my B-List but I didn't have the heart

young folks do not "determine" programming. programming on radio is specifically aimed to shove acts down young people's throats. face has talked about this.

Face is just being bitter because they never invited him to that "radio/MTV rap" club even though he has rapped with all of the biggest names of the 1990s (hence why he deserved to be on my b-list top 5)!! The reality is that people just didn't care. He DID catch a little bit of radio fame, at precisely the time when he could have taken off! Yet, people just didn't bite on it. It doesn't negate his talent, but it is just a reality of the situation. Scarface wasn't entirely pushed out by the record industry, people in general were just not feeling it! Come to think of it, I think I put Scarface in my top-5 of local rap heroes and rightfully so.. Quote:

worth checking out, but sounds nothing like Liquid Swords y'know? It's very much a product of its time. "Stay Out Of Bars" was always a track I liked. There's some good songs there.

here's what GZA himself said about the album: "I was signed to Cold Chillin' 'bout five years ago," GZA recalled in 1995. "They put out an album but didn't promote it. They tried to put it out again last year after everything happened with the Clan, put a '94 date on it, but still didn't put any money behind it, so it didn't sell twice. I'm still proud of it, though. The beats ain't all that but, lyrically, shit was bangin'. So it wasn't all peaches and cream, but I was determined to break through. 'A quitter never wins, and a winner never quits.'" .. interesting. by the way, i just ordered this book: The Wu-Tang Manual i'm gonna learn so much from it, right? so excited. |

I had the 95 version back in the day> I think it was re-released w/ the original art again in the early 2000's.
I read the Wu-Tang Manual. It's great.

The MD Anderson library at the University of HOuston where I work has been digitgizing their Hip Hop collections from Special Collections department. They just released the link to HAWK's archive. http://digital.lib.uh.edu/collection/hawk
There are also tons of DJ screw, Big Moe, and H-town hip hop history items.

I got to go see a lot of these photos, old records, and other artifacts in the flesh at our library last year. One of those moments that actually made me feel some school spirit.

that's cool. If you guys didn't, I'd recommend the book Dirty South to read. The chapter on Screw is really great.

interest level just went way up. BUT I heard 4 or so tracks off the new Pharoahe Monch album and now I'm pretty pumped to pick that up. PTSD. Some crazy tracks on there. Monch is awesome. I was a big Organized Konfusion fan back in the day.
