alright so Summerteeth is why I'm a Wilco fan. Wynona Ryder introducing them on Conan was my intro. And as such, I have a lot of attachment to this album. It's not technically my favorite Wilco album. But it's close. And it's one of those albums where I struggle to pick a favorite song. Is it the slacker bummer headnod of "She's A Jar," or the simple strummy "How To Fight Loneliness," or is it the Cars-y pop of "Always In Love" or the what-did-he-just-say lyrics in "Via Chicago" or or or...? I love this record. It's constantly shapeshifting for its entire duration, and yet nothing feels THAT far removed from Being There. This is a band evolving before our eyes, but in a natural way. Like how you can't see someone's hair growing if you see them everyday.

The live-in-studio version of "I'm Always in Love" from I Am Trying to Break Your Heart is the definitive version of that song for me.
My favorite Summerteeth track is "A Shot in the Arm." There was a lot going on in this era for indie-leaning alternative bands with big aspirations, and in 1999 I was much more focused on The Soft Bulletin and A Series of Sneaks than I was on Summerteeth. It's a good album, but something about the production doesn't really work for me. I listen to it less than pretty much any other Wilco album. |

"Shot In The Arm" is damn good.
Funny - I lump Summerteeth and Soft Bulletin together. Those two albums def soundtrack a specific time in my life. That time when you're out of high school and into college and feel like the world just opened up and is huge and you want to ditch all your childhood things and just take in as much as you can. Y'know? OH! And I totally lump Terror Twilight into this as well. I didn't get into Spoon until Girls Can Tell.

Yeah, I know that time super well. Throw I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One in there for me too, as well as Built to Spill's Perfect From Now On even though both were out long before I went off to college. They still defined the time, because they finally made sense to me only after all that Wonder crumbled into despair. |

I had a roommate in college who preferred JR&TML to the Modern Lovers. I'm not sure it's very common — a bit like preferring the Jicks to Pavement, but hey, some people do! More power to ya! Me, I'm a Modern Lovers guy. |

I gotta listen to what my ears are in the mood for, lest I write off something good unfairly.
Nearly 3 hrs of Weezer tonight and I'm happy right now.

Dude you're cray-cray. I get the ears and mood thing, but I've gotta say you're sleeping bro. You are sleeping on the new Kendrick Lamar. For what it's worth, it's WAY more immediate and full of ear candy than TPAB. That one was hard to get into, and I love it. But DAMN. is way different. I have had pretty much all of the songs stuck in my head for over a week. I've listened to it every single day since it came out. Wanna know the last time that happened? TLOP. The time before that? Yeezus. If you're expecting more TPAB stuff, don't. It's fucking nothing like that. It's catchy and it will make you nod your head like crazy. |

I'm ashamed to admit that I had never heard this awesome song until last night... here I thought I was something of an armchair punk scholar, but apparently not.
Yanka Dyagileva - "My Sorrow is Luminous" Yeah, it's Russian so maybe I get a pass for not being familiar with it... maybe... but I kinda think not. Great song though. Wow. |

No need to apologize. I just thought it was objectively digable. Shows what I know. Anyway, I'm digging the shit out of it.
