Was listening to Funhouse... and wondering what Iggy Pop solo albums are really worth listening to? Skull Ring is a massive blemish on Iggy's taste, I know that. (Fucking Green Day?!). Kill City is amazing I hear, but that is joint with Williamson. Lust For Life, of course should be the classic. The Idiot? American Caesar? Zombie Birdhouse? New Values?

I haven´t heard all the Iggy´s solos, but I think none of them are as great as Stooges seventies albums. It´s long time I have listened Idiot, didn´t like it then, I think I have to listen it again. My favourites are Lust for life, American Caesar and Naughty Little Doggie (I think this one is little underrated).

Yes, American Caesar has peaked my interest, so fancy you should say that. I'll check 'em out.

Just finished listening to the new LOOP EP!

The Idiot is underrated, it was a strong influence on Joy Division (apparently Ian Curtis even listened to it shortly before committing suicide... !!!).

In Alfredo Suatoni´s book "from the centre of the city" is said he listened Iggy & the Stooges Metallic K.O. -album and watched Stroszek-film from the TV before his suicide. But maybe he listened both?

Aw, what the shit? You serious?

Why didn't I ever click on that "Loop Reform" thread?

With Fugazi would do something like this... someday.

The Idiot was the first Iggy solo release that I ever heard, and I think it's been unfairly swept under the rug of "cool rock" history. That album, and Lust for Life, were hugely influential in a totally different way than the Stooges albums were. But they don't get the same lovin' that is given to albums like Bowie's Low, or Lou's Transformer. Total classics though. And yeah/ the influence on Joy Division is pretty clear.

Yes, Iggy & Bowie were huge idols to Curtis and others. Of course also Velvet. Curtis was really excited when Bowie walked past him in the RCA-office (JD made an album before Unknown Pleasures to RCA that is never officially released).

Are you talking a about the 12-minute An Ideal For Living EP? If so, not really an album... But yeah, technically it was their first release. It was issued on 12" vinyl format in the U.S. for Record Store Day 2015.

No. Ideal for living was their own release. They recorded 11 songs. They made new versions almost all the songs that they recorded in RCA, All of This for you is the only one that never recorded again. There are lots of bootleg versions of that album, mostly it is named Warsaw. I got this version:
http://www.discogs.com/Joy-Division-...release/554689

There are also songs from Peel Sessions and one from their first demo.

No, they´re not the same what I have talked about. In Substance vinyl there is side one of "Ideal for Living" (Warsaw & Leaders of Men). In cd-version which I have is also side two (No love lost & Failures). They recorded those four again in those RCA sessions in 1978 and also they recorded 7 more songs (there is also first versions of Shadowplay & Transmission, latter is really interesting, much slower than the later single version). These are never officially released, I think JD guys don´t like these sessions at all. They are much more punk, very raw. Not of course essential JD-stuff, but I like them also. Also they have made 5 songs demo while they were under name Warsaw. I have those too, they are quite horrible, only At the later date & the Kill are ok songs (The Kill of this demo is totally different song than the one in Still).

Here are All Of this for you from RCA-sessions:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60QApbDG4PE

I think this version is better than later single-version (Curtis vocals are much more aggressive & greater)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipBURvpouYY

There is wrong information in that youtube-piece, they were already Joy Division when making those RCA-sessions.
