You can set up your generic American English with most of these things. If you're on Windows, go into the settings for your keyboard, and you can set it up for other languages - I used to live with some Germans and Chinese people who did exactly this. I've never wanted/ needed to do it, but I think there's some kind of Ctrl+Shift+something else thing you can do to get umlauts [sp?].

A wolf whistle, or a 'I'm not here' whistle? Whistles can be incredibly ambiguous y'know? Just ask Ronnie Ronalde.

Some time tonight will be cool, if that's possible. I'm keen to look further into one or to of the artists. t may turn out that I have heard of them and don't recognise them, of course.

This one was supposed to be space themed but I abandoned that and just made it a whatever tape, though I did leave in the Sun Ra interludes.
And here is your tracklist: SIDE A Sunburned Hand of the Man - Every Direction/The 1st Degree Sun Ra - Theme of the Stargazers Einstürzende Neubauten - Selbstportrait mit Kater Hüsker Dü - Books About UFO's Tortoise - Six Pack His Name is Alive - Peace in Detroit Trans Am - White Rhino Sun Ra - Outer Spaceways Inc. Charalambides - Dormant Love People Like Us - Adridged Too Far Current 93 - Black Ships Ate the Sky Kasai Allstars - Kayile/Nyeka Nyeka SIDE B Throbbing Gristle - Distant Dreams Gogol Bordello - When the Trickster Starts A Pokin' Roxy Music - Virginia Plain Liars - It's All Blooming Now Mt. Heart Attack Sun Ra - Next Stop Mars This Heat - Health and Efficiency The Capricorns - Steve and Tiffanie Arto Lindsay - Erotic City Tape Beatles - Joy and Power Sun Ra - Second Stop is Jupiter Jackie-O Motherfucker - Something on Your Mind Smegma - Walkie Talkie Pere Ubu - Blow Daddy-O I must ask, which one did you enjoy the most? |

The first track is excellent, and I like all of the instrumental-with-dialogue type tracks (very much my kind of thing). The track with the yodelling and the snippets of John Peel (which one is that? People Like Us? It's towards the end of side one, anyway) is probably my very favourite, although Einstürzende Neubauten runs it close of course. I'm giving it another listen tonight, and I'll try to post comments on each track as I go.

Yes, I forgot to mention that John Peel snippet. This was from their Peel Session, so that may be him messing around while they cut up away (er). Listening to People Like Us are probably one of my favorite pastimes. Wonderful stuff. I suggest you seek out more of their stuff. I mentioned them in the funny music thread because they can be hilarious at times, such as with this track.

Indeed, I've just done a little research on them (or her, as it turns out) and she sounds absolutely fascinating. There seems to be a fairly substantial discography though - where would you recommend that I start? (actually, the same goes for Einstürzende Neubauten, whom I know reasonably well but don't actually own anything by). I've most probably related this before, but in Manchester, where the Hacienda nightclub used to stand is a series of inscriptions charting some musical history. At one point it sayssomething like 'Einstürzende Neubauten banned from the Hacienda after taking a pneumatic drill to a concrete pillar as part of their act', which I think is rather splendid. The mixtape is very cool - thank you. The only stuff I wasn't too bothered by was Gogol Bordello and the punky band with the (as I saw it) John Lydon-esque vocals. But both of those were OK too.

I would check out Recyclopaedia Britannica which works as a greatest hits. Always a good place to start out. Or go with my favorite Beware The Whim Reaper. I think on her/their (she is rarely alone) you can stream a wealth of material.
As for EN, well it depends on which EN you'd like to hear. They've come a long way since their early clanging and crashing. They are a lot more song oriented now. Maybe Halber Mensch or Haus der Luge. The featured song is from a later album, the very recent Perpetuum Mobile. I'm glad you like the majority of it. You can't beat no wavers covering Prince songs! |

Oh, aha. I don't think I have. Is it with Matmos? I don't have the album, though I need it. Not the "you can always go, DOWNTOOOOOOOWN" song? I must hear it. Share it if you've got it. |
