'Souls of Black' was the first thing I heard by them. The bassline on that song made me buy the LP.

How intriguing that two of the tapes (Hip Priest's and mine) in round one contained Age of Chance's "Kiss". Could the time be right for their reformation?

Sheep on Drugs were really good I thought. I first heard them on a free tape with Deadline magazine - 'Mary Jane' the track was. I've got an etched 10" copy of 'Let the Good Times Roll', which is fairly nice I suppose.

Do you remember the Natural Life track? Corker ofa song, that one. Scorpio Rising were a band from my part of the world, they played with the likes of PWEI and the Neddies. Should have been big, I tells ya, but things went wrong. There's some American dance band who use the name Scorpio Rising now.

SONICL SIDE TWO:
Track one is a trippy/dubby type thing. Is Adrian Sherwood involved? Like a lot of the On-U stuff but with trumpet that sounds like Miles Davis. I went through a stage of loving On-U, for a brief period late 80's/early 90's they were just great. This probably isn't On-U at all though is it? Good though. Alas no vocals to comment on. Track 2. I recognise this I think. Very dancy. Wait a minute, I'm going to take a stab in the dark: Adamski. Nice & acidy. Track 3: An instrumental Mazzy Star-like track. I know it's not MS, that's the only band I could think of. I would guess British early 90's but I don't know. Not a great track on its own, but fits in well. Lets me have a sit-down after my dance to "Adamski". |

From Birkenhead, in fact. On the Wirral. I sort of knew them, in fact! It's stunning that soemone else has heard of them now. Their records are so good (a few Eps and a mini-LP). Such a shame things went wrong. I picked Watermelon because of the kicks-ass bassline and the wah-wah type solo.

Wow, that is a surprise. I've only heard very early Chatham and it's obviously nothing like this. I've just rewound & started the tape again to give it another listen. |

I'm not entirely sure I've ever heard any Rhys Chatham.

Incidentally, apologies to Glice for the liquid-papered cassette - I had to record over a pre-recorded one, as I had no blank cassettes. I have now though. In fact, I'm considering making a 120-minute epic for round two.

My motivation at work today, besdies money, was the thought of coming home and seeing a package in my mailbox containing my mix tape, but sadly the postal services have failed me.
