Well both U.S.A and England have bloody tough groups. Should be a fun world cup!

The answer is yes, but its a long shot. Ironically this means that US stand a better chance of advancing past the Round of 16 should they survive the group stages because their group may just be harder then the next two rounds! Klinsmann is right, USA just got to step it up, that is what the World Cup is all about. Let France and Argentina have their pity Groups and muffin soft schedules, all the other groups are pretty challenging. Ivory Coast-Japan-Colombia? Belgium-South Korea-Algeria? SPAIN-NETHERLANDS-CHILE?? Its not like those cake-walk groups.. Only A/E/F are cake, and even they could hold some surprises.. If USA CAN'T win in their group, we really don't deserve to be there in the first place. Personally, with our new style of play and improved defense, I think we are competitive enough, we aren't ranked 14th in the world for nothing

I had no idea of the reason France had landed in the safe pot.
Your views on Platini might be right (he was a Saint-Etienne player, a big team that had a slush fund thingy during his days, and testimonies abound to say that he ain't a nice guy when asked for an autograph), though it pains me to admit it. My father and him are from the same little town, from the same origins. That thing about the false relief of being in a soft group... I do not know, I can't remember... What I thought I remembered is the quick exit of teams that survived a GROUP OF DEATH... so relieved of achieving to overcome strong opposition, they couldn't cope with their next game. Can't find any example now, si I might be wrong. |

i guess its only throw-ins and yellow cards but it's still proved that the only reason england haven't been given the world cup for being so fucking good is because sep blatter fixes every game against us and wants to extend the premier league to run all year so our stars get blisters

It's not ideal for us but while Uruguay will be tough and have to be favourites to top the group, Italy aren't that great and if we can't beat Costa Rica we may as well not even bother going. Not saying we'll do it but it could be worse. USA's group looks far worse than ours. |

Yes, USA's group is indeed vile and disgustingly evil BUT don't sleep on Costa Rica. While CONCACAF teams rarely have the kind of beautiful and symmetrical offense that typifies Eurotrash teams and all those damned South Americans, one thing about CONCACAF is all the teams play hard, smash-mouth defense. Nothing shuts down a high-paced offense like some brawny CONCACAF defense, and Costa Rica knows their shit in that regard (their defense stats rank similar to Brazil/Argentina or Spain/Germany)...

Must be the pitch from last night's game in Turkey.
I read something about it, but this image stll surprises me. Way back in the thread, this passage with the West Ham fan on the radio... I won't help putting his voice on the next very words the WH fan posting on here will use. |

Haha. It was only a matter of time.
Moyes is safe for a season at least but there has to be genuine doubts as to whether he'll ever be the right manager for them. But we know the board got him to save money. They're downsizing. Their squad is weak compared with their main rivals, and, while we know all about Rooney wanting to leave, there's now strong rumours Van Persie is about to hand in a transfer request too. It's a massive rebuild job but will the calibre of players they need come to what increasingly looks like a team in decline, with a manager who lacks any kind of wow factor? MU fans who think their name is enough to attract the big names are deluded. It's money and guaranteed success that attracts the top players now, and MU can't offer either anymore. And I'm loving every minute of it. |

I don't know which is catching more hype, Klinsmann's return to Germany or US facing their only true WC rival Ghana? And if that weren't enough, now the whole "what will the US do about Ronaldo" chatter is bubbling, this is going to be one hell of a Group Stage..

This. It highlights how good a manger Ferguson was. For too long United had managed on a few great players and a lot of average ones. Wellbeck? Watadick, Young? Watadick, Rafael? Watashit. And so on.
