I remember being 14 and wanting to purchase albums with potentially offensive covers and/or titles whilst shopping with my mom. And I made a big effort out of sneaking it all past her.
About a month ago I was copying Songs About Fucking for a friend of mine, and had it sitting out in the open because it's been a while since I thought to be ashamed of something like that. My mom saw it and made an audible GASP, and I went "Oh, you'd love it. I'll make you a copy too." She turned down my offer, which was a bummer, but I think she also realized she was just pretending to be offended in the first place and that this was ridiculous behavior on her part. I guess she thought being offended was the proper reaction. This is a thing she pulls every now and then, and my brothers and I have gotten good at making sure she doesn't take herself too seriously by basically not giving her the satisfaction of getting to watch us try to explain ourselves, which is what parents like to see I think. They want to see their kids be made to feel uncomfortable in that kind of situation. But really, the fact that she thought for a second that I might be made uncomfortable by an album cover was silly.
