Apparently, neither Iggy Pop nor The Stooges have been inducted yet: http://www.futurerockhall.com/past.php EDIT: Patti Smith hasn't made it in yet either.

...which is all the more reason why Lou Reed should do it.
He's met them too. I was friends with Moe's daughter Kerry (we fell out of touch when I moved from Athens) & she remembers meeting Sonic Youth when she was in junior high & Lou was there. We had friends in common. One day I walking along on the UGA campus & I spotted her trying (rather unsuccessfully) to park. I taught her how to parallel park that day & we became fast friends. She looks just like her mother. Her younger brother Richard played drums in his mom's band. He has a band in Athens now called Mother Jackson for which he plays guitar. |

As much as I love the guy, I would not want David Bowie to be involved. That is borderline ridiculous. Adding the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to the mix is even more embarrassing.

I don't think they will make it though because they are going against Maddona and The Beastie Boys and R.E.M. But then again...

this thread should have been titled...
if sonic youth were let into the rock and roll hall of fame, that would be a fucking travesty.

Oh, whine whine whine. Selecting different inductees won't change the fact that it's the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The whole thing is really unnecessary no matter who they induct.

I know Sonic Youth were at Bowie's 50th birthday bash...but really, even I giggled a little at the suggestion, and I would consider myself a huge fan of his. Maybe there's just something innately funny about the idea that David Bowie does anything of any importance any more, especially when it relates to music. Because he doesn't. Or at least when he does, it sucks, or is boring. Still a fan, but I can't pretend like I'm interested in what he's doing at this very moment.
