oh don't get me wrong, Snoop is the shit and i still get my herb from North Long Beach from time to time I have been bumping his records since DoggieStyle BUT I never would have imagined that he would have become so mainstream and universally accepted in America.. I mean I know like twenty dudes as low-life yet interesting as snoop and none of us could become so widely accepted.. it is very very interesting.

I'm sure anybody in the LBC who sought fame and was given the rare opportunity to obtain it the same way Snoop did would be willing to make the same small sacrifices in order to reach a national audience. Are your friends signed to a label that is growing in popularity as fast as Death Row records was when Snoop signed on?
Or maybe Death Row Records is a CIA front? |

deathrow days are what brought snoop into the spotlight true, but that was hardly mainstream america or the Teen Choice Awards.. in the Deathrow/No Limit days snoop was the OPPOSITE of what parents wanted their kids to listen to.. now he is on Teen magazines teen tv teen choice teen america blah blah woof woof ?! Quite a change in mainstream attitudes is all I am noticing with this.. and considering all the drug dealing that DeathRow records originally was a front for, maybe it is a CIA front, after all the CIA are the big time importers..

its like Lou Reed pointed out, originally the mainstream radio wouldn't even take Velvet Underground advertisments because of Heroin as a controversial song, and then ten years later he was performing that tune live, syndicated nationally over the radio on a live multi-broadcast, on the same mainstream radio which had rejected the same tune earlier..
back in the Murder Was the Case days I just could never have even imagined as a joke snoop throughing gang signs at the red carpet for the Teen Choice awards, making mainstream Teen/Family friendly magazine covers doing at that! traditionally in America gang signs are not family friendly, an irony which Snoop himself must just be loving!

I think all you are showing is that controversy is temporary in popular culture. Public opinion isn't a fixed position, but is constantly adapting to itself. |

no, the point with Snoop is not just that public opinions adapt, but that evolving public opinions and pop culture both influence and also reflect public morality. People rejected Heroin for moral reasons, just as they initially rejected gangster rap music.. but by the 70s the mass exposure of mainstream america to drug use rationally expanded their morality through realism.. the same is true with gangsters who are today the cowboys of 21st century Americana.

Taxi Driver is a film I never tire of watching. An absolute masterpiece! The rest of the world is still agog today over how it never won the best picture oscar.

So where do the CIA fit into that apart from being an unintentional cultural reality that, as you might say, influences public morality?
It still seems to me to that this is apart of the nature of morality itself to be capable of only transgression from ought to is, rather than progressive or regression political notions. |

Apply and slip in lots of innuendos about drug smuggling.
