If you believe everything bad you've ever done is absolved by the acceptance of torture murder, you do need to make some black metal.

I think Christian metal is a way for musicians to feel good about making bad music.

This reminds me of that song "Burn In Heaven" from Moral Orel.

anything labeled "christian" in music is done solely to sell albums, because the market is pretty huge. hundreds of thousands of sheltered teens whose parents will not allow them to purchase anything that is not aprooved by their youth pastor.
as soon as wide appeal is found the bands drop the "christian" tag and actually go out of their way to deny it. look at creed and evanescence.

I'm with hank hill on this one:
"You are not making Christianity better, you are just making rock music worse."

yeah, this might be true for bands that sound like green day or papa roach, but black metal is a style of music where an anti christianity, pro satanist, or pro pagan stance is a given for every single band in the genre, so for a black metal band to come as being christian is firstly bizarre and pretty much antithetical to the founding concepts of the style, secondly has taken about 20 years to happen because who the fuck in their right minds starts a christian band within a supposedly satanic subculture? thirdly is marginalising yourself within something that is totally underground and obscure anyway, and fourthly the bands i linked are never going to sell many records (and by that i mean i'd be shocked if any of these groups sells more than more than 500 copies of their records) due the fucked up harsh nature of their music. which is to say nobody who only listens tochristian music is ever going to hear about this stuff because of where is comes from and what it sounds like. |

I agree with you in regards to the artists, if they are sincere, after all, I am probably the only Orthodox Christian at the Subhumans casually ignoring the first line of No because I so passionately believe in the rest of the song... art reflects the human experience, and music is the most potent of these reflections.. but with current, commercial Christian music, there is often a nefarious agenda having nothing to do with either art nor Jesus, but rather a sinister plot to monopolize the $$$ of the industry, replacing so-called "secular music" (a term I have never in my life heard except from these christian music industry sleeze balls) with "christian alternatives".. exploiting Jesus to sell albums just rubs me the wrong way, both as a musician first and a christian second, however, the genuine and sincere Christian music I can understand completely, because even Sonic Youth is christian to me, by the feelings it creates in me as a Christian, which after all is the point of art.. and at times, there is nothing darker and more depressing than Christianity, the dirges of Lent I think carry the exact feeling of the darkest metal.. All art is Christian to the devout Christian faithful.

so..
would the real jesus please stand up? so we can crucify him and then make music out of the tonal splashes of his dripping blood? anyone? i mean we have a whole studio... even got ice-t on a 4 month contract. We're looking at you late 90s bands. Really? No one? Live? c'mon Ed. Oh? Yeah he didn't fit the bill. What? No he was so fucked up on drugs... man, we just cut him loose in Florida. What the fuck do I care what some random local girl says on an internet post. They were fucking done anyway. Scott had a choice, the bread or the bread. He chose the bread. So shoot me in the fucking face with a motherfucking crossbow. I don't care what he did at Denny's. Now we're running out of options... Gavin? No, you're joking. Acting? seriously? what the fuck guy? what about little things? what the fuck was that about if nothing but sin? the little things kill! sin kills! this producer says fuck you to all of you fucks, i have an untapped resource: Jeff Ament & robbie robb. Let's see if Three Fish won't put out the Holy Ghost. |

Not only is black metal as a style of music wholly separable from its associated ideology, but it makes more sense for Christianity to use it in response. |

i used to have "something about crying". it actually wasn't bad when i first heard it. it was a little cheesy, but what black metal wasn't/isn't? the song you linked is way better than any song on the album i had. it's when they were starting to go more metalcore and then they went to whatever style they are now. for a metalcore song it isn't half bad. too bad i think this stuff is boring now. |

fuck yeah, even when they fucking suck terribly i ALWAYS support artists by taking their crap with a genuine smile and sense of appreciation, put out your art is not easy in such an artistically deprived society that is completely bombarded with commercial advertising and product placement.. Quote:
well, I am offended musically first by crappy music and sleazy-self-interested record company people.. as a Christian I am less offended because I do not discredit the faith of others, and as Paul explained, even if Jesus is preached by those with some kind of bullshit agenda, I give praises that at least Jesus is being spoken of at all!
