I remember renting out the first volume of that beatles antology from brompton library years ago 'cause i thought that perhaps listening to what went behind the scenes would finally turn the magic on for me. It was the biggest pile of arse with john lennon's echoed voice saying '1-2-3 a day in the life' i have ever heard. And that 'free as a turd' song tucked in for the extra cash.

almudeno69 - for fuck's sake, stop posting links to your site. Post something relevant to the topic(s) at hand or fuck off.

Jet Pet is such a cool song on TI , I like a live version from Mnpls in 92 better though, there'r some other good songs plus all the crazy soundscaping disguised as shattered rocknroll.
Strawberry Sodapop on the 1st lp is another groovy song, just kind of washes through the listener like floating in a warm bath. I wasn't too into either record at the time. Didn't get into them until the Red Tiger 7". |

See, this is sometimes a drag for me. Royal Trux is one of my long time favoritest bands, and they are one of those bands I own EVERTHING by, literally every time I see some rare bootleg I don't have, I get it. So, this means I will undoubtedly find myself spending drug money on a discoigraphy I already have.

I like all of Royal Trux's stuff. I love how thier craziest and loudest most feedback crazed stuff, like 'Twin Infinitives' is still funky and has that pure Rock n Roll swagger. On the other spectrum, their most funky and pure Rock records, like 'Sweet 16; are still sorta wierd and noisey. They were pretty close to a perfect band; a total perfect melding of noise absurdism, beautiful drug induced beat poetry, and unadulterated love of the many styles of glorious Rock n Roll.

Now I;m rambling, but what do people think of the Howling Hex? I think some of its really good in a Neil Hagerty post Trux is eerily similar to post VU Lou way.

I like Howling Hex probably more than anything Royal Trux put out after Cats and Dogs. I love that whole 'border sound' idea going on in the Hex, as well as hagerty's very loose notion of a 'band'.
I'm not sure if I quite understand what you mean by the 'post Lou VU' comparison though. Are you saying that Jennifer Herrema provided some kind of 'Lou-factor' within Royal Trux? In which case I'm not sure if I'd necessarily agree with that. |

I really love The Howling Hex incarnations. Earth Junk from this year is up there with Neil's best work in my opinion.

This is my favourite Howling Hex record, The Return of The Third Tower, released in 2004 in an edition of 500 copies only.

Thanks for that.
I'm confused. Have Royal Trux reformed? They are listed as playing a gig in Italy at the end of this month in Bologna's Covo. |

I saw that too - I can't see any evidence of Royal Trux "reforming" - I suspect it is actually RTX instead. EDIT: Having looked at the "official" Covo site and their Last.fm page, there's no mention there of Royal Trux playing....you'd have thoght that this is one gig they would have been more than keen to publicise?

I had an urge to listen to Twin Infinitives today. Which is what I'm doing now. What a record to not have listened to for a few years! Silly, silly neglecting good records Glice.
