Smog/Bill Callahan - River Guard
specifically this version, such an amazing song, incredible lyrics. It was one of my least favourite songs on the album until I found this video and the lyrics just stood out so much more to my ears. I get goosebumps and emotional listening

I've discovered an excellent band today that are playing in Chicago with Eat Skull, Little Claw etc tomorrow. Their name is Fey Gods, and I don't think they put any records out yet. Anyway, they have a cool tune (more than one) on their myspace called ''Face Like a Rat''.

"The Big Picture" by Bright Eyes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vp_fJ31tpkI Excellent idea for an intro- two folks in a car driving around, chatting, as the song blends in, then "shhh, wait a minute, I like this song.." and then cue unbridled melancholy. |

Jacques Brel - Amsterdam (english subtitles). This video of a performance of this song is particularly amazing, in that you can really see how much the man gave to his music. The lyrics are quite remarkable as well, you can actually smell the fish-heads.
