Denver's been like a second home for almost two decades for us, because of family there and all that. I know the place well, so that would be an advantage. But yeah, I hear great things about Albuquerque. Walla Walla is great wine country and a groovy little arts town. I could so live there, too.

South Carolina's cool factor rose a milimeter when I moved here, but you know, one guy can only do so much.

Well, we would, but it doesn't make sense to move a few miles only to turn around and move again. Dig it--we plan to be out of here by the end of the year, preferably much sooner, like the end of the summer. The whole place is redneck county. Actually Charleston is okay. Beyond that the closest cultural oasis is Charlotte, NC.

Asheville wouldn't be bad, but getting out of the South is preferable over all.

I hate albuquerque and everything about new mexico. Most ugly boring state I've ever been to. And actually Denver is pretty much exclusively blue. |

I'm pulling for Denver because family is there, and because I know it so well. But Alb or Walla would be acceptable, certainly.

it's true about the state, it's boring. but did you live in albuquerque? it's nice once you know people. of course is not a great city but it's pleasant. and don't you live in bumfuck florida anyway? come on...!! denver. hm. i didn't know that. i might drive there just to verify. only 6 hours away! walla walla? is that a fish? no. a robot? where is that? anyway denver, huh? about burque, as i was saying above, it's interesting, but it's not... what is the word... it's not a "great city". you know, if you like great cities, this isn't one. however, it's nice. and because it's smaller, it's easier to be king of the cage. ha ah ha. we live in the university neighborhood which is pretty awesome. in fact it's probably the best neighborhood i've ever lived in. well no, i did live in georgetown (dc) which is awesome, but fuck if i could afford anything. and when i lived near U street it was a crack neighborhood and now it's luxury condos & shit. so again no. but i'll tell you what i like about here: i can walk or bike to everywhere i need to go. in other words, the neighborhood is pretty self-contained, there is little you need outside here: a brewery, the occasional visit to the (yuck) mall, a restaurant in a different neighborhood might require you to get in a car. but there are buses running near my house. the airport is 15 minutes away, the train station is 2 miles away, there's a baseball stadium ive never been to but it's within walking distance, and the best part is that the state gives me free money. so i am biased. |

What I've heard about Alb is that it is similar to Denver but with more character. More like what Denver was 30 or 40 years ago. I could dig that. Everything you've mentioned about Alb sounds really nice to me. I only give Denver the slight edge because we would be closer to family and because it's already very familiar to us--as I say, like a second home town.
Walla Walla is in Washington near the Oregon border, inland a ways. It's a nice artsy community in the heart of wine-making country. Very small, only about 30,000 people, but also very enlightened, green, liberal, all that, from what I hear. Very supportive of the arts. About 4 hours from Seattle and Portland. In other words, it beats the hell out of where I am now.
