Savage Republic often made use of a 12-string electric all tuned to one note, but I don't know what that note was.

Exactly.I'm absorbing so many of them that Sonic Youth seem almost dim in comparison.There are tons of bizzare tunings all over the place.

Lou Reed had the ostrich guitar, all tuned to D. Savage Republic fucking rock, I'm so glad I got their cd for free from Del Rey! (I've got two free cds from him!)

Arcade Fire use a couple, not too often, though.

Since we have some people in this thread who dig Jandek, would it be possible for anyone to Sendspace/Yousendit an album or two by him for me or any other curious listeners please? I've been reading up on him, and he sounds really interesting, but his music is not easy to come by, in stores or digitally.

No idea, you can tell that something's definitely fucked up on the tuning tip though when you listen to their music (also they have 3 guitar players).

drop-d wasn't that popular when they used it though. Now it's everywhere.

i'm surprised no-one thought of using drop-d earlier. it makes power chords as simple as possible.
