T&B is about right. It's like an A&R dep't listened to the first Royal Trux album and decided to sign a band with all the obvious signifiers, except for the interesting bits.
EDIT: I find people that despise Green Day hilarious. It's like their badge of honour. Hating Dookie doesn't mean a thing. It's like saying you have morals simply because you hate the Yorkshire Ripper. |

That is what I thought when they released their first album; their image put me off them for a long time... well, until I heard Fried My Little Brains to be exact. I like Royal Trux but I don't think they've written a song as good as No Wow. Really. All of their albums are great. They even have good B-sides (Passion Is Accurate, the Beefheart cover). And my favourite gig in years was when I saw them in Leeds this year, all of the Midnight Boom songs sound even better live. I'm a fan! Oh, and I think the drum-machine is the best thing about No Wow (the album). I like the slow, measured 'tick-tick-tick'-ing, the way it sounds like its holding back something; and like its counting down until the moment when it will release it - its really intense. |

I think purely on a song-writing level they're quite hard to compare. It's my view that the industry loved the idea behind Royal Trux but couldn't handle the music. So along came The Kills and that was it: problem solved. |

I liked the live shows I heard (I haven't listened to the records yet).
