A complete collection? Is that possible? There are so many variations of releases, re-issues, etc. This is the point at which you could get really obsessive, as in collecting vinyl with different matrix numbers in the runoff portion and crap like that.

Sadly, I don't know the sadness you speak of nor do I think I ever will.

yeah, but yr a sick puppy gmku!

It is nice to have specialty releases and such, but I am talking about justhaving the MUSIC, once you have all the officially released music.

I am not too into getting every possible issue of the white album or stuff like that, but I like to have colored vinyl.

with bands that ahve broken up, like polvo, or unwound, there is only so much stuff out there that they put out and it is fairly easy to get to the point where there is nothing else for you to get, no music of their sthat is "new" to yr ears, you know?

Oh, well, in that case, I would say I have close to a complete set of the Stones. Trouble is, there's some sweet bootlegs out there of late 60s, early 70s shows that I know I will never own in the original vinyl release format. I do have a few of those, and they're some of the better ones--but truly, even though I have every official Stones album, including several in various LP releases, knowing there are all those boots out there, I could never think of it as really complete.

I seriously still think it's nearly impossible to own a complete collection. Even if you just stick to the official releases, you're still talking about an awful lot of merchandise, in a lot of cases.

At the same time, it keeps it interesting. I'm always thinking some day I'll walk into the store and see Welcome to New York (from the 72 stones tour) on the original bootleg wax and the storeowner has ignorantly priced it at 6 bucks or something. A man can dream.

My friend found this John lennon bootleg, rare indeed, at a store where the owner had it marked for $15 ha ha ha ha!

that vinyl of winston O Boogie was re-released as a Two CD thing a few years ago. I have NO idea where it originally came from!

Recently I have reached this level with Unsane, Dinosaur Jr, and Polvo. There are quite a few others in my collection that I have already "finished" while it makes me happy to find these things and to listen to them it also saddens me because that is yet another band whose name I have to cross out of my mental "to get" list.

Do any of you ever feel that way?

Mkultra is a great track, you bought yourself a right treat there, I have it on a singles and rarities compilation, but does that count as 'having it'?

I'd only really make the effort to complete my collections of the following bands:

The Cramps
Pussy Galore
The Ramones

The same for me, Rob.
But most of the time, I get into a new band just before finishing a collection. And most of the time, I can't finish a collection, 'cause it's difficult to find good albums here, except if I order it on the net (what I don't like to do).

Lack of money/job to complete any of my collections. However, there are a lot of things (not music-related) that I would put on my "Things I Have A Lot Of" list. That sentence was awesome.
