oo, rocket from the tombs is a good call too.
black dice, i dunno, theyre great but everytime they out out a record theyre featured in pretty much every indie music mag there is. but i respect them so much for the fact that they started out as a loud as fuck noisecore band and evolved to an experimental band embracing styles as disparate as idm, post punk, hip hop, one of the few bands to change their style that drastically and not totally fuck it up.

half japanese is definitley a band who's influence is vastly underrated. i mean, every no fi noisy punk band is influenced by them in one way or another, shit, they were also one of the first punk bands (besides punk's forefathers) to introduce non rock instrumentation.

Wow and I was going to say Built to Spill, µ-ziq and Guided by Voices. But some of these bands you guys are talking about are completely under my radar.

I don't really have any bands to list here. Because on one hand, I agree with what Everyneurotic said. On the other hand, almost every band I listen to has gotten plenty of attention -- just maybe not on this message board. Take Dengue Fever; no one gives a fuck about them on here, but in various other places/message boards, they're treated like gods. And a lot of the bands on your list -- Experimental Dental School, Oxbow -- they may not be mentioned here much but they're only getting bigger and they're well-known elsewhere. If you're playing SXSW and have tons of last.fm listeners and so on and so forth, I'd consider you well-known. I mean, Secret Chiefs 3 has almsot a million listens on last.fm and have been covered in tons of mainstream mags; they're extremely well-known. Just not amongst the people here who are stuck in the early 90's. Besides, I don't think they'd really want tons of mainstream attention anyway. You see what I'm sayin'?
And yeah, Black Dice... if you're in SPIN Magazine, I'm pretty sure you're getting enough exposure. |

Surely Adam agrees with me on Built to Spill and µ-ziq, right? Dunno if you're a Guided by Voices fan though.

Zeropumpkins -- built to spill and u-ziq are HUGE (by the bands-we're-talking-about's standards at least), though. They can probably make a living off of their music.

I'm really glad Crom Tech was the first band mentioned in this thread. I love their Gravity release. shit goes off.
Suppression In/Humanity Mayo Thompson/The Red Krayola Half Japanese is waaaayy overrated. Jad Fair can't sing or play guitar and isn't charming. Mayo Thompson has done far more interesting things and no one knows who the hell that is. |
