Oh, I won't be able to get it for a few more days. I typically trust... well.. I think Kid A is great. And most of their albums are all pretty worthy, though extremely overrated (except, again, "Kid A"). I'd rather listen to "Chairs Missing" anyway. Though.. well.. I mean, I'd hate to rain on anyones parade but am I the only person who thinks "I Am The Fly" is a little um, lame? I mean, THE FLY?! It's one of my all time favorite songs, but come on -- THE FUCKING FLY?!
Reminds me of that scene in Deadfall where Nicolas Cage goes "SOMEONE'S TRYING TO KILL ME, MANNNNNNNNNN" and does an Elvis karate chop/kick. |

OHMIGAWD!!!!
it sounds like just another radiohead album. they should be embarrassed that they worked on this for so long, because i'm not really seeing much growth from them at this point.

My first impressions: I think it's good, but it's not really exciting me much. It bothered me too that they seem to have toned down some of the rockier songs too. I'm also in the camp of being a little sick of radiohead by now also - I used to be a huge fan and they're the only band that ive felt that strongly about and now to find them a little boring. That said it's nice - some nice songs on there but i dont think i'll be listening to it for prolonged periods of time. I agree with val-halla-ing too.
On the subject what did everyone pay for it? I didn't as i'd rather use money to pay for a cd version - that deluxe box is a bit crafty too. |

I offered some ready salted crisps and a half-eaten piece of cake, but Thom Yorke told me to sod off.

when i first heard the album, on crappy Apple earphones, i couldn't really hear the bass all too well which was awful.
i should've just turned it off right then and there. but 15 Step sounded so great nevertheless. the bass near the end reminded me of Where I End and You Begin, and then Bodysnatchers came on and put a smile on my face. Nude is absolutely gorgeous, the "on again, off again" bit of Faust Arp reminded me "flan in the face" in The Wolf at the Door, All I Need is beautifully haunting, etc etc. but after i listened to the album through the first time, after Arpeggi or so, i was getting restless at the lack, in my first listen view, of instant 'catchiness', especially in the softer songs. i'm listening to it now with better earphones and it is immediately having a much better effect on the way i'm perceiving the album. i need to listen to it some more. overall, it's not a bad album, far from it, but not amazingly great either. |

Was I the only one expecting a Radiohead album when downloading a Radiohead album? My expectations were pretty low to were I was expecting another album of piano ballads and electronic blip drums. However, Videotape is the only song with piano.
But after listening to it, it does sound like a "mixed reviews" album. |

Well, up till now I think the main limit of the album is Thom's voice. I liked better how he "used" it in his solo album, more variety and less "whiny" (<-- not to be read as an "insult") imo. I think it's a pretty bass-percussions rhythm based album actually, gotta listen deeper to make up my mind, but I think it will be killer live material.

I can see how someone may find it boring. But it has a unique vibe to it where I can't really compare it to one of their previous albums. I like it a lot.. I hear a lot of Boards of Canada type influence but I bet they were spinning some classical albums as well.

i was too quick to judge in my own head on first listen,
based on the shit sound coming out of my shit earphones, plus subway/train noise. huge mistake. but it's a much better listen now. i'm hearing it clearly for what it is. i knew it was going to be better when I heard Jigsaw Falling Into Place completely different on a quieter train than the morning one coming home. what a great song that one is. In Rainbows definitely requires multiple listens for complete appreciation. it hits me with the warmest feeling inside how great this album is. |
