Dirty is not that bad of a record... sure, its a major departure from BMR, but it has a fair amount of great cuts (wish fulfillment, chapel hill,etc.)... Ive yet to listen to Jet Set, so Im not making a statement on it. ^^

Been thinking for a while about this, but the circular and repetitive riff of The Sprawl proves to be really therapeutic for people with concentration problems. And effective.

Dirty was slagged due to backlash from the artsy types to the earthy rock of the grungerss...
Dirty rules though. Experimental Jet Set Trash & No Star however, I find it unnecesary. I do not enjoy it. I have never enjoyed it. he only sonic youth album I do not enjoy

Dirty used to be my least favourite, but upon listening to it the other day... fucking great album. The only flaw is the lyrics to Swimsuit Issue... and Creme Brulee is kind of mediocre... fits in better on EJSTANS, I'd say.
I read the perfect review of Rather Ripped last night on tiny mixtapes... it is kind of the same deal with EJSTANS, in my opinion. Coming after a succession of stellar albums (Goo + Dirty and then Murray Street + Nurse) it seems just alright. Both really good albums, but coming off of two really, really good albums, they tend to be overlooked and swatted off like flies.

I always see Dirty and Goo as being a pair. Goo is the better album, but i like the production on Dirty, it has a sound that no other Sonic Youth album has. Thankfully im too young to give a damn about the old "sell out" debate, so ive always enjoyed Dirty on just this basis - Its a ROCK album, and it ROCKS!

Dirty could only have come out in 1992. The album and the year go hand in hand as far as I'm concerned. I loved the album when it came out and I still like it today in small doses but I could never embrace it unconditionally. I've never been angry about anything going on around me. Or even identifying and/or misdirecting the personal with the world around me. Actually, I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about so nevermind.

Woops, I didn't mean Drunken Butterfly! I meant Swimsuit Issue! The lyrics for the most part in that song are... shudder!
