Hey Chris! Hope you're doing well. Thanks for the heads up on that one. Which date is this? Gonna watch the whole thing later.

another half-assed record from Thurston, meanwhile LeeIsFree is aging musically like fine wine. I'm starting to strongly feel that Thurston without Lee-Steve is not as good as we thought. Retrospectively analyzing his solo records over the past 20 years, I'd say they amount to fluff compared to his material with Sonic Youth. Sorry Thurston, but without Sonic Youth you're seemingly out of you league bro

Thurston's genius (yep) is for melody lines. Nine times out of ten . . . well, seven times out of ten, when I have an SY tune in my head, it's a Thurston vocal melody line. Yeah, it's often a copy of the main riff, but a good melody is a good melody. And melody is probably the hardest thing to write.
This tune has no melody. And it's the title track? I hope it's the worst song of the bunch, but if it's the title track it may very well be the best. |

I don't know if LR's recent solo records are any better than TM's. |

Reminds me more of a Psychic Hearts tune, it may be the tuning. It's better than the clm record but then anything less metal is always going to sound better.

I have to agree with this statement. Personally I guess I may be in the minority about not really appreciating Lee's Dust band's output thus far, the songs are not catching on to my ears and sound bland and tame and old (too much like "classic rock"), i kinda want him to let loose abit more, so Lee aging well? i don't think so. IMO his best "songs" are within sonic youth... And much prefer his solo improv work. Still not sure of what i think of Kim's Body/Head though i really like Bill Nace's other collaborations alot more... Body/Head seems more of a live experience than a record i want to crank on my stereo over and over...

Body/Head is excellent but it isn't Sonic Youth for sure. Lee Ranaldo's records are only a little better than Thurston's. Maybe. Change in direction is fine, I encourage that sort of thing myself because it must be boring to always do the same thing. If the actual songs were any good. But they're not. I mean, it's great that they are musicians and do what they are known for and they, as artists, love doing. Nobody is going to remember them for their solo records though.
