'Carburetor Dung' was the joke, not 'Psychotic Reactions', which was an album they released in 1966. And it is pretty shit. |

yeah dude, i love it. it sounds like they have gone back to a more out of tune no wave style while simultaneously opening up the sound and introducing a more proggy and expansive epic feel, the songs sound like they are building on top of one another as they go along. its really what i want sy to sound like now. i feel people who hate it maybe had sonic nurse or rather ripped as thier first youth record.

i know its an album, but the article was a joke based on the album. they were one hit wonders and he was imagining if they had a long multi-album career.

It's really rare and in mint condition. Every serious music fan should have a copy in his collection.

I dunno, The Eternal is probably, if I were to be honest with myself (instead of being silly), my second favorite of Sonic Youth from this decade. It's right behind Sonic Nurse. But.. don't give one of your reasons for loving it that it "tries new things". It doesn't, it's a rehash of everything they have ever done put it one neat little package.

Cause I listened to them again and decided I changed my mind :O
Not to say rankings matter though, Murray Street is still my #2. |

This is true to an extent. A record doesn't really have to do new things to be good, though. I mean, do you only listen to records that do new things? I bet you have some of them in your collection that you still enjoy while they don't sound 'new'. |

Oh of course it doesn't have to try new things to be good. I just don't get why people are saying The Eternal is doing new things because there isn't a single new thing on it, except that Malibu Gas Station has one of the only guitar solos in a Sonic Youth song that I can recall.

Chapel Hill has a guitar solo too. I haven't read the majority of the posts on the eternal threads. Are many people saying they are doing new things on it? |

And that's fine!
I'm just not into that sampler-driven noise-explorations-to-nowhere. I'm not on enough drugs. Like Growing's stuff (after a certain point).. that's all it is, random sounds floating around. Communicates nothing, bores me to death. |
