I listened to 1930. It's good for noise, but there isn't a lot of variation. Too many long periods of (mostly) the same sound. I can definitely see the appeal, but I like noise that constantly changes dynamics. Pieces of the last track were great.

Isn't the Merzbox £500 or so?
I wouldn't spend that much money on Merzbow tbh. |

It’s a tad disappointing to see Merzbow Tour only to see that the “tour” is only two cities:
December 14 Oakland December 15 Los Angeles ......with Prurent and Special Guest SYG has 16 different Merzbow threads Does SYG have any active members living in California? Will anyone from SYG be attending? |

100 Merzbow Fans Could Give You 100 Differet Answers Pulse Demon is a nice place to dip your toe into the pond of Merz. Eight individual tracks that are harsh at times, but not the harshest of the catalog. Track lengths from 4-24 minutes long......be sure to chew your Merz slowly. His collaborative efforts are some of my favorites. Keio Line with Richard Pinhas is fantastic!!! |

I fuckin love Merzbow. I hate to brag, but I am a proud Merzboxee. I might have 100 discs of Merzbow.
My all-time fav is Akasha Gulva. It is a wall of noise with shifting, subtle layers. It is the sound of a car being dragged across a city by a flying 747. Anyone can make noise, but Masami Akita has a magic touch with his unique brand of psychedelia. It needs to be stated, though, that his vast discography contains very many different sounding works, for various moods. Hybrid Noisebloom is also a fav. And Pulse Demon. And the 10CD Merzbient set. And......oh fuck it. So much great noise here.

I've heard "1930" described in various ways, but never "amusing".

Amusing made me smile! Quote:
It was sheer brilliance when released back in 1996 and it still holds up well today! I’m curious, are you listening via phone / computer speakers because it’s a completely different beast through a stereo system? If looking to start a physical Merzbow collection, I recommend buying used CD’s. |

I listened to the first two tracks on my speaker system, then realised I'd get some very odd looks if my parents came down this end of the house and switched to headphones.
