looking forward to this...didn't care much for Ys, but loved Mender. (Ys is okay, just hard to listen unless you're in that specific mood) Curious to hear this one.

Well.....to all you haters, to each their own......what can I say?
I fucken love the 2 released songs so far......and it is very very different from the vibe of Ys imho.......(don't get me wrong, I love Ys).......it has more "breathing room" methinks............she really does sound quite different....toned down the vocalizings perhaps? You haters might actually like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STwVx...eature=related

should be awesome(well that goes for all music i guess) but i'm not sure if she can pull off 3 discs, it's been a few years since ys so if she's been writing for this that whole time it could be great. i hope it's not one of those multidisc albums where the discs are just barely over 40 mins so that you could almost fit two of the discs on one,i hate that shit.

It's two hours split over 3 cd's: which is something like 40 minutes of songs pro cd.
So your going to hate this shit |

Yeah, that aspect of things is starting to piss me off. Like the Flips Embryonic "double album", which is 70min.

i think record companies or artists love to write some shit like "an ambitious opus! a sprawling outpouring of creativity,an epic journey with an artist pushing their boundaries farther than you thought possible" and then usually the album is like 25 minutes longer than their usual records, with 15 minutes of that being their worst material. |

Cerberus Shoal's Mr Boy Dog is a double but could fit on a single disc. Somehow I like it better being a double though, like sort of two sides to a story.

It would also have something to do with how the artist wants the album, and the listening thereof, to be structured. If each of the three discs deals with a separate mood, story, style or anything that distinguishes one from the other, it would make sense to try and break them up in some way. Obviously in this day and age, when practically everyone listens to music on an ipod or on their computers, there is a great deal of futility in this organisational attempt. Nevertheless, if this is indeed the case with Newsom's new record, I see nothing wrong with the approach. Consider how annoying it is listening to the deluxe editions of Goo or Dirty without some sort of pause between the album proper and all of the bonus material.

Spot on.
I'm actually really looking forward to this. I hope it's just as good as Ys and Milk-Eyed Mender which are some of the best albums ever in my opinion. |

meh, the album is being released on 3xLP too so there will pauses there where the cd doesn't have them, it's a waste of plastic and probably the listeners money, and as stated most people will be playing it on a computer anyways, if you're one of the(probably few) people who is a bothered by lack of pause you can use the pause button and avoid the environmental damage and higher manufacturing cost
it takes probably 20 seconds to change discs and if the artist is intent on having a pause they can easily insert that amount of seconds of silence onto the disc |

Lol? I like Joanna Newsome. Milk Eyed, in particular was great. I can totally see how that croaky voice makes her kinda polarizing, but if you can get past it, you realize that her melodies are gorgeous and her lyrics are excellent. They really read like poetry. That said, three discs does seem excessive. |

I agree with all up to the last sentence. The bonus material is just that. And in the case of Embryonic, my fav record of '09, the two 35min discs (in the special edition or whatever) do stand alone quite nicely. But fuckin, put 2min to 5min pauses in there if you think things should be broken up, I dunno. Maybe the 3cd concept for this will make perfect sense. I'm still lovin those 2 songs.
