I don't think that the new song's that bad, or that their S/T is that bad.
I think that Liars are held to way, way, way too high of a standard due to the brilliance and originality of Drum's Not Dead. If their S/T was the follow up to their debut album and none of that in between stuff happened, people would like it. |

They got a lot of attention with their dance punk stuff when bands like The Rapture, The Hives, and the Strokes were starting to break the mainstream.
Then under all that attention they released some phenomenal noise rock albums and EPs. Then they came back down to earth. |

I've only heard Drum's Not Dead. Didn't really like it, nothing about it really caught my attention, it just kinda played in the background and I didn't take any notice of it.

it's better an dmore inspired than than the previous selftitled LP. Found it hard to like it at first but it's a grower. Check out the video for the single. amazing.

Yeah, the "Scissor" video is great.
I'm going to buy some CD's this afternoon, if I see that one, I'll pick it up.

You've said it 1800 times before, Adam. We already know your opinion on them.

I'm not really sure what to think of it.
If I didn't know it was Liars I think I might like it more. The music is just so much more concrete than their other recent efforts. I was expecting some new-neolithic outerspace subconscious type pop drone, and all I got was an art rock where I can tell what instruments they're using. It seems like they're moving even more and more away from their strong sense of rhythm, which IMO was their strong suit. I do like some of the tracks though. Overachievers, Goodnight Evening, and Too Much Too Much are decent. First track is cool too. Too Much Too Much rips off the WIRE post-verse bass line to Practice Makes Perfect. I think it's Practice Makes Perfect. Not that Liars are unfamiliar with ripping off melodies from other artists. Pretty Sure "It Fit When I was A Kid" from "Drum's Not Dead" rips off some 60s song, I want to say by the Zombies. |
