Is she? I thought she was British. That was my only reason for prefering the British office. Oh well in that case I'm backing the American one. Far better! The British one's shit in comparison. |

Ricky Gervais was merely handing a rough sketch to a master. Oh, I don't know if I can keep this up.

Being honest, Gervais' Brent is brilliant on so many levels. His sense of subtle tragedy is such that Carroll's basic pantomime rendition simply doesn't compete. I didn't even know that people even considered Carroll's version as better until now.

yeh
its ridiculous that people can really think that there is so much that ricky gervais does as Brent that steven doesnt capture so many small facial expressions it really blows me away when watching it

back gervais kicks ass no doubt "extras" is really awesome but the writing on seasons 2 & up leave the original behind. the problem w/ british tv is because of the poverty of means you get say 1 brilliant solo violinist, like gervais-- whereas american money (mhuahahahahhaha) can support a full orchestra-- dwight shrute here having NO EQUAL he blows away that boyscout british twat. that fucker is demented and he steals the show. oh anal i know why you love the british office-- you are in love w/ gervais and you want him to rub his jelly belly on your face ha ha ha ha ha. ok fuck i should go make dinner, bitches. thanks for the amusements. |

I hate it when people say about Carroll, oh, but he does things you don't notice. As if we can't spot a lack of subtlety when we see it.
If it were a stand alone show it would warrant praise, but to compare it to the British one really is just silly. Gervais' Brent is one of the finest pieces of acting I've seen. I really mean that. |

I think this is where the problem lies. Extras really wasn't a very good series. Gervais' genius (and I do think he is a genius) remains solely in his portrayal of David Brent. Honestly, to put Extras on any kind of par with The Office suggests a real misunderstanding of the latter. |
