one 74 year old man was found dead , drowned in his truck which crashed as he was getting away on thursday night. that must have been a horrible way to die.

I think it is much more likely that the Bush crime family is smuggling in thousands of tons of cocaine, heroin and whatever else they like to smuggle through the devastated area with no customs officials and such. that would make more sense!

Unlike in New Orleans after Katrina, they are not spray painting a giant "X" on a building when they find bodies. Instead, they are putting discrete stickers on the buildings. On the one hand, government officials seem to be trying to keep the media from portraying the true extent of the disaster, but on the other hand officers are tipping off reporters about deaths and rescues.

Rhiannon said the amount of buildings reduced to rubble suggests that more bodies will be found and the magnitude of the disaster will become clearer in the coming days.

The coast around Houston and Galveston is some of the ugliest I've ever seen anyway. The place could use more good scrubbings.

I've always heard New Orleans referred to as the end of the sewer pipe, the butt of the Mississsippi, but Houston/Galveston would give that a run for its money.

I agree with alot of what Cantankerous says. More culling is needed.

And, even if thousands were killed, I haven't noticed any less traffic around. Didn't notice any less even after the millions were wiped out in Myanmar.

I think what set this off for me was the lone house that survived on Bolivar. two years ago, these people had their home destroyed by a hurricane, so they rebuilt. this time, they had it made so that it would withstand a Cat 5 'cane. it didn't matter. the walls stood, but the storm surge still got inside and ruined it. people shouldn't be living there.

I just think that if somebody makes the decision to live within 10 miles of the beach (or on a barrier island), they should be held culpable. of note: my very good friend and his mother (who is also dear to me) fit this category. they both live across the street from the gulf.

the cost of these storms would decrease exponentially if there was nothing to destroy on the beach. and I gotta tell ya, it's not like it's going to get better soon. as long as we continue to cause imbalance in the earth's homeostasis, these storms will only get worse and come more frequently.

it's throwing good money after bad.

now, again, if somebody really wants to live where they can see the water from their window, let them, but the bailouts will have to stop at some point. if it was all the rage to live on the side of an active volcano, I would be saying the same thing.

back to the original subject, I feel that all those that made the choice to stay on the islands (despite the MANDATORY EVACUATION - YOU WILL DIE notice), should be heavily fined. their decision of inaction places rescue worker's lives in mortal danger each time one is called out to rescue Kaptain Krazy and his Kin. I have little to no sympathy for them.



anyways, I hope that you and yrs is ok. I think that where you live got hit a lot harder than was expected but I hope that it wasn't too bad when you got home.

last year, I had to evacuate my home due to an ice storm (been through 100's, but nothing like this one). we were without power for a week and it was 20 degrees inside, so staying was not an option. I'm still traumatized by it.
