hey there sarramkrop. You and I should write a book about music and life iwth music and everything that comes with it. I think we come to it from different angles but end up in a very similar place. I rarely talk music with anyone, mainly because I got tired of the bands everyone wants to talk abotu like 10 years ago.

I got tired of those bands too, which makes it even stranger we're on a board dominated by threads about dinosaur fucking jr and radiohead...

Well the constant hyper-analizing of a band has the worst effect on the way you end up perceiving/listening to them, doesn't it?
The music still remains good/bad with all its potential or lack thereof, but the person who so wants to keep relating to it will find it more and more difficult to do so, eventually. That is when it's time to cut down on the gibberish, stop playing the band's records and go back to it with a fresher approach at a later stage. |

I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm merely reccomending electronic music a sonic youth fan might enjoy... I might be wrong.

Techno = One thing.
Glitch = Another thing that in any case went on to contaminate other manifestations of electronic music. Jungle = One thing. IDM = A shitty guilt-ridden American term for electronic music. |

Yeah, that's why I put quotes around those words... I don't necassarily want to call things "IDM" (and the term "glitch" is rather stupid as well), but some artists are just that... whatever.
I was simply saying, I don't know what Rob's tastes are, but his quick negative reaction to electronic music (happy hardcore or otherwise) makes me think he may not have investigated it too deeply, and there's a lot of gems to find in there... |

There is no "post" in that rock. |

Yeah, Rob, you and I are both pretty nice guys! We're just too honest for this board sometimes.
But yeah, by not listening to electronic music, you're missing out on lots of great melodies. But to each their own . |

Oh, so hardcore is the same as psych rock or punk? That you are a bunch of nice guys is undeniable, but to not admit that you are a little unaware of the fact that not all electronic music made with samples, loops etc etc sounds the same and is the same, doesn't seem like a far-fetched concept.

I don't know if you're referring to me or not, because I most definitely know the difference between all the different electronic subgenres... In my post listening jungle/IDM/glitch, etc, I wasn't saying that they were all the same genre, I was saying to investigate those subgenres...
If you're not referring to me, sorry. |

It's not about the merits of one genre over another, it's the attitude someone brings when they listen to a piece of music. I could be looking at a Van Gogh, but if I'm not 'open' to it, then its just paint. Right now, when I should be lhearing music, all I can really hear is sound.
