well im not gonna start and arguement over not liking biggie. i mean i loved his beats and i think puffy is actually way underrated as a pruducer (check the new jay z, hes tracks are the only ones good on there) despite him being on of the biggest deauche bags on the planet. but the rest of your list is pretty awesome so ill let it slide.

I also forgot one of my faves: Tupac's Strictly 4 My Niggaz.
It's from the time when loads of rappers were copying Public Enemy: Ice T (on Original Gangster, which is excellent) and Ice Cube were using Bomb Squad-like producers and writing aggressively pro-Black and nihilistic lyrics. Strictly 4 My Niggaz is Tupac's contribution to this time, with the only light relief being Keep Your Head Up (everyone of his albums has a token 'from the heart' track - this one is actually good). It's in an awkward position because Tupac's fans, who prefer his Death Row bullshit, won't like the abrasive, murky, sometimes-bordering-on-industrial production (one of the songs is sampled by NIN on their cover of Metal); while the hiphop fans who would appreciate it (Public Enemy fans) probably won't listen to it because they've dismissed everything Tupac's done on the basis of his Death Row bullshit. It's an angry, uncompromising, noise-hop album, and well worth a download. |

Excellent list, I must say. Geto boys are one of my most listened to artists right now. It's interesting to see how that in all of hip hop history, they seem to be the most gangsta and that was way back in the early 90's. Quote:
. Sounds like a Dre track too, and isn't that bad, but the hook is weak. Lately I've been listening to: DPG Kurupt (Releasing a new album this year) The Game (Look out for L.A.X) Lil Wayne (Look out for Tha Carter 3) Dre (Look out for Detox) Geto Boys Three 6 Mafia Kool Keith / Ultramagnetic MC's Inspectah Deck / ODB / Rae / Ghost / Rest of Wu + Affiliates Rakim (+ Eric B) Ice Cube - Death Certificate DJ Screw E40 Slick Rick Big L Big Pun Biggie NWA The Coup Public Enemy Talib Kweli Dr. Octagon Noah23 Production Dr. Dre Just Blaze J.R. Rotem Pharrel Cool & Dre Scott Storch Dat Nigga Daz RZA Kanye

Big Pun was twice the size of Biggie Smalls and over the course of two albums
and a gang of cameos staked his spot as one of the most amazing lyricists I've ever heard. Redman is still my favorite though. Best MC? No. But my favorite.

Also, anyone who doesn't like DJ Premier beats, you're a lost one.

Most of the ones previously mentioned.
I don't see Sage Francis, so I guess that he's not liked much. Grand Buffet are a good laugh. |

My friends tour with Grand Buffet quite a bit. I hung out with them when they first started playing in the late 90's....cool dudes.

They played twice at a cozy bar up the road. I like the way they get up on stage with a cd walkman and burn down the house. Who are your friends, if you don't mind me asking?

They're from Baltimore. Burnem is a friend of mine from college who is in Philly most of the time now.

Yeah, they mentioned Baltimore. I've got Five Years of Fireworks. Good album and funny DVD.
Ask them about De Bliksem if you ever see them. Edit: Lord Grunge got wasted on whiskey while Mr. Pennsylvania sort of meditated back stage. |
