GATE est le projet sonore (guitare + laptop) du plasticien neo-zelandais Michael Morley, membre du groupe seminal The Dead C et collaborateur de Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), de James Kirk (Sandoz Lab Technicians, The Stumps, With Throats as Fine as Needles) ou encore de Zeena Parkins. Il a monte son propre label confidentiel Precious Metal dans les annees 1990 et a sorti une multitude de disques sur divers labels (Guitar, Amerika et Metric sur Majora, The Dew Line et The Monolake sur Table of Elements). Sa musique oscille entre drone-rock rugueux et environnement sonore electro-acoustique. Riffs de guitare electrique etales en feedback lancinant, brouillard de fuzz et drones granuleux qui enveloppent une voix mi parlee-mi chantee. Michael Morley est egalement enseignant a l’ecole d’art Otago Polytechnic de Dunedin.

thanks for the heads up. it amazes me how cheap cdwow can be sometimes, especially with vinyl.
then they even have discounts with 1.50 euros or 15% off of everything (usually on mondays, it's good to keep a wishlist and buy stuff when it's cheapest) and every 10th item sent within 60 days of the first gives you a free voucher worth the average amount you've spent over those 10 items. plus they don't add shipping costs to the listed prices. i can't stop buying from those bastards, on average it's more than 10 items a month lately.

Norman Records review:

This guy (Michael Morley) with the shit moniker (see also: Bench, Table or Fence) i've just discovered is a member of scrappy NZ racketeers The Dead C. So downtempo electronica was not what I was expecting therefore. The opener starts off like the ambient intro to West End Girls by Pet Shop Boys and loops beautifully for a few minutes, underlaid with static & crackle and some muffled implicit vocal stylings which both add to & detract from to the lulling atmosphere of the tune. His style of electronica is quite understated, primitive and organic, his vocals on 'All' sounding like the ethereal ramblings of a stoned man in a weird trance whilst the music is built on a lo-fi metronomic beat & a rattly hi-hat sample - the amorphous keyboards summoning up thoughts of Global Communication. Odd stuff indeed! Just when you reckon you've got him figured he funks everything up with this weird chillwave disco experiment, his ever demented vocal stylings becoming a slurry elongated monologue draped carelessly (and amusingly) all over the tune. Fucking bizarre record indeed, side two I'm not commenting on because I need my DINNER! Rah!
