We walk or use public transport. I've never had any interest in learning to drive, and in NW England public transport is very good on the whole.
We use less water in the toilet cistern by putting a thing in between the thing and the, um, thing. we recycle where neccessary, but we try to produce as little rubbish as we can, and re-use things where possible. I tend to think that the recycling-as-panacea thing is a bit misleading, because it doesn't really encourage people to produce less waste, or re-use things. It should be a third option, especially recycling is an industry itself, with all the problems of industry. When I'm at environmental events, that kind of talk sends people into a rage, which is quite funny. We use as little electricity etc as possible. We try to freeze food that would otherwise go off, so as little is thrown away as possible. We buy ethical/environmentally friwndly products wherever possible. Probably other things too.

Recycle.
Walk whenever and wherever possible. Vote accordingly. Vegan. 10 facts: Global warming and your diet! 1. The average meat eater is responsible for 1.5 more tons of global warming gases per year than a vegetarian. 2. Animal farming generates more greenhouse gas than transport. 3. Changing your diet will make more difference than changing from a standard sedan to a hybrid car. 4. Animal farming is responsable for 18 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions, including 37 percent of human-induced methane (23 times as warming as carbon dioxide) and 65 percent of human-related nitrous oxide (296 times as warming as carbon dioxide) 5. Methane cycles out of the air in just eight years, so that lower methane emissions quickly translate to cooling the earth. 6. 70 percent of rainforests in the amazon have been cleared for grazing. In Australia, hundreds of million of tons of greenhouse gas emissions are caused by clearing for grazing. 7. Meat and dairy production uses huge amounts of water, causes air and water pollution, uses fuel, causes soil erosion. 8. Livestock use 30 percent of the earths entire land surface. 9. 33 percent of the global arable land is used to produce feed for livestock. 10. Along with driving less, going vegetarian is probably the biggest thing you can do to lessen your impact on this planet

I make sure to recycle the PETA pamphlets instead of throwing them in the trash.
I also try to convince Vegans to become Tibetan Buddhists. |

I use paper not plastic when posible. and use cloth bags when I can too.. etc.
Im semi vegetarian/vegie (in the process of re-vegetating after my six months of eating a little meat again when moving into a diferent household..) I thrift shop I dont drink soda/buy from crazy commercialised companies and take out for the most part uhh.. dunno. I think I have a fairly good attitude toward the environment.. Im not very good with saving water though.. because Im a real water babie and love my baths and showers. |

I dont know what it's like in the US.. but if you buy vegies from the supermarket here (which I dont really like doing but where Im living dont have much choice) they have all of these ridiculous plastic bags to put them in...
I use the paper mushroom bags and tell the chekout lady what's in each of them. or not use a bag at all if its one or two bigger items. drives me nutso that its all 'dont use plastic' and then there are rolls and rolls of godawful clear scraggly bags ready for the vegie section.. oh and riduclous 'fast' cooking alternatives that require so much excess packaging... like soups in packets, microwave meals, sauces in jars, etc etc. lazy fkn people = lots more unecessary packaging and products! |
