“The prog thing is strong with me.“

Mad respect for that!

And thanks for the tip regarding the Soft Machine cover!

My wife and I have seen Harry, even got to meet him after the show. He and his band are so talented.

At Sarofim Hall of the Hobby Center for Performing Arts. Brought by the Society for the Performing Arts Houston.

Man it was a great show. He never backed away from the JAZZ baby, even when singing the prettiest Cole porter ballads. Great band, great drummer, and just super fucking fun, in this trying time.

The last gig I went to was around December time. Southern Spain; working class Leather production town, Ubrique. In what can only be described as a building the size of a shipping container, situated on the outskirts of town, up a mountain in a long since derelict abandoned area. This building unit being the last surviving establishment in a row of about six other buildings. There is no toilet and no structure to build taps.

The band was a punk tribute to Eskorbuto. At one point my partners friend took to the mic flanked by her two pitbulls, joint in hand and got a one woman mosh pit going in the middle of the ten strong crowd inside. I'd previously saw her perform flamenco style on the X factor to a good degree of critical success. Surrealistic. There was copious amounts of weed flowing throughout the day in all of the bars in the town centre thanks to Spains' liberated view on drugs, and lazy cops.

10/10 cuppers.

I'm currently watching the A2B2 Night of Fire e-festival, livestreaming mostly hyperpop (currently Alice Gas) on Twitch. Andy Morin, Laura Les, and Dorian Electra are the big headliners, with Sewerslvt and Ariel Pink also being on the bill.

The last gig I went to took place a month ago. Miët, the name of the artist.

I had spent the week checking the venue website to see if it was to be another cancelled show (Whispering Sons/Porridge Radio/Big Joanie had during that time morphed into Whispering Sons/Vox Low, then into Zombie Zombie/Vox Low/Cyril Cyril - and I was no longer interested - before being cancelled).

I was surprised to see that the Miët gig could occur and went to see what it'd be like.
It was windy by the sea. There weren't that many people out there at the doors. Miët was not the headliners, and they ain't big names either.
Eventually we came in, there seemed to be more staff behind the doors than audience.
I was the first to enter the place, and felt it seemed so small with the pit stacked with black folding chairs. Mask on my face, I sat down. The ranked scarcely filled in.
The show was good to me, except that I was sitting, and that it restricted my moving to the music. Miët played a new song that felt really good. As there were not too many people in the audience, the clapping and cheering sounded a bit hollow. Plus she wasn't the headliner.
When the headliner came in, it was more cheerful, even though I couldn't grasp why, since it quickly turned out that the blokes on stage, those wearing a guitar, had no idea what rhythm and melody meant. I turned my attention to a guy in the row before me. He was attempting some headbanging moves while being seated like the rest of us. I didn't like at all the music, but wasn't that pissed 'cause I had liked Miët.
This was her first show in quite a while. She felt it was odd too.

htrk the other night

adjusting to a way more song-heavy tip, half the set loaded with new stuff rooted in acoustic guitar arrangements. honestly sad to see them gravitate away from the abstraction that was always so attractive to their music, but really interesting to see them lean more heavily into their obvious songwriting skill.

I'm not familiar at all with that band, but what about the pandemonium logistics? Was it an online thing, or was there a "grid" set so the audience would keep social distancing?

umm we're pretty much in the clear here down in melbourne, so it's pretty lax....this was part of an outdoor concert series so it was seated in tables of six, but nothing substantially different to 'normal'. other gigs/club nights are like 75% capacity but that's about it in terms of restrictions.

I’m not sure if this is accurate but I think the last show I saw was Mortiis at a venue that didn’t deserve him And put on by a promoter that couldn’t do their job, but he delivered the goods and I was not disappointed, having waited since the early 90s to see him.

The last concert that I know I attended because I have a recording of it was Flying Horseman, in my hometown on 22 October 2018. Don't think I attended any gigs after that

There's an article on P4K about US concert venues during these covid times:
36 of America’s Best Independent Music Venues on Surviving and What’s Next

(but be aware of the annoyingly flashy images)

Regurgitator - Prince Bandroom, Melbourne, Australia - April 17, 2021

First show in 16 months (for these guys) and ever (for me), and it wasn't disappointing at all. The venue was pretty nice and a reasonably easy trip to get to (even if I got on the wrong tram at first).
Had to wait around for a while, seemingly too long, before we got the opening act - Mindy Meng Wang, ambient musician using a traditional Chinese instrument called a guzheng to play two ten-minute pieces. They were cool, very atmospheric, and I definitely want to hear more.
Another too-long wait before the band came on, with Quan's mother Lein on stage so we could sing 'happy birthday' to her (80!). They kicked into the first number, 'Blood and Spunk' (one I don't really know), and it took a while to get their instruments into gear, but once it worked they rocked out for the next hour.
The setlist was pretty heavy on their two oldest albums, Tu-Plang and Unit, with a few fan favourites - 'Black Bugs' (which included a sick guitar solo with a synth effect!), 'I Will Lick Your Arsehole' (audience singalong), 'Everyday Formula' (though Quan forgot the lyrics at the start a couple times) - and ended with a great version of '! (The Song Formerly Known As)'. Sadly too short of a show (fourteen songs in about fifty minutes), but they were having a lot of fun on stage and it was an awesome first experience for me.
(Didn't grab the paper setlist, despite wanting to - the person who did was nice enough to let me get a photo.)

Sweet! I wonder what the mom's favorite song is, 'I Will Lick Your Arsehole' or 'I sucked a lot of cock ... '

Nice to see that your part of the world is moving back to some form of normality. I'm afraid it will still take some time over here.

He did joke that he learned a lot of things from his mother before he played Cock (which isn't really about cock, unlike 'Polyester Girl' which is about exactly what it says).
Unfortunately I didn't record it, and there were only about 200 people in the crowd (a sellout given the reduced capacity) so it's probably lost to the ages - but it was my first show so I just wanted a good time.

Johnny Mafia played in a farm 15 minutes from my place.
I really liked it, we were out in the open, maskless, not seated, it felt real.
