If you were a lady we'd already be fucking. Lady power bottoms are kind of my thing. I'm wondering how much I'd have to drink to not care about a penis.

Are you actually moving here? And I'll be doing plenty of heavy drinking between now and then so if I don't have my answer by then it means that I'm probably immune to alcohol. Oh, or dead from alcohol poisoning.

Yeah, actually by the end of summer of next year. I am in the process of looking for a second job.

Where in Brooklyn? Steer clear of Williamsburg or Bushwick or any other hipster/transplant dens. You can pay way less and live around real people in many other parts of the borough.

Cool, well closer to where my job might be. Yeah I was thinking of staying the hell away from hipsterdom. You're going to have to tell me what areas. I haven't really thought it out on what areas.

Well, sadly a lot can change in a year, but an area that I'd recommend is Sunset Park. It's where I am now. I also lived here for a while a few years back. It's inexpensive, way safer now than it was when I was a kid, has several key train lines, and for the most part has whatever you need in walking distance. Otherwise my recommendations will change depending on what train line you need for work.

True, I am actually hoping I can transfer with my job. And like you said things change in a year. So I will see then where to go. But yeah definitely next year I will be in NY, I have prolonged it too much.

If you plan on living in the same area that you work, or at least a somewhat nearby area, I highly recommend commuting by bike. It can be quicker than the train, you save a ton of money, and you get to ride a fucking bike!
Also, I would ride with you. I have no qualms meeting people off of the internet for a bike ride.

Yeah I think I may have to do that. Do you need a fucking helmet? You know get fined if you don't have one.

In parts of it, yeah. They've all been pushed out of the major hipster strips though. If you'd seen the neighborhood 15 years ago your mind would be blown by the difference. Hell, even six years ago it was different enough that it wasn't totally mind-raping. Pretty much all of Brooklyn is totally different than it was when I was a kid.

i'm sure. the street i stayed on though was completely hispanic except for one bar which had wifi. all the neighbors on either side were familias. i walked down the street and there was a grandpa grilling some delicious-smelling chicken, etc.

There are actually no helmet laws in New York unless you're under 16. they can fine you for moving violations though. Running lights, not having fucking lights, not having a bell. But that shit is unlikely. Usually they just bust down on cyclists at the start of the season and target key areas (like coming off of the Williamsburg bridge.) And I've never heard of a dude getting stopped and ticketed for having no bell. But I have heard of people getting ticketed for having no bell after they've been stopped for real reasons.

Yeah, but these days you can walk through any part of Williamsburg and pretty much lay your wallet down and expect to find it there an hour later. Growing up, I don't even know if I had a neighborhood friend that wasn't involved in a stabbing (as the victim or the aggressor.)

I stupidly don't wear a helmet (I've had enough close calls that I should stop trying my luck), I have no lights, bell, I often wear dark clothes, and I am frequently drunk. I bike to and from work every day, so I probably cut through lights right in front of cops an average of 5 to 8 times a day. I've never been stopped either. But I work in a bike shop so I hear everyone's stories. Had a dude come in once telling us he was just fined $100 for not having a bell. Fucking sucks for him.
