ranking guitarists is kinda dumb, especially when it spawns arguments.
life is too short for that kind of shit. fact of the matter is: is jimi hendrix the best guitarist ever? i don't know, but i do know he is amongst the best. as simple as that. |

from the net
Anastasio has employed the services of his friend and audio technician Paul Languedoc (Phish's soundman from 1986 - 2004) throughout his career. The highly resonant hollowbody electric guitars built by Languedoc for Anastasio, his Ibanez Tube Screamers, and Ross Compressors are key to his signature tone. Trey has three custom Languedoc hollowbody electric guitars:

it would seem not.... see, the reality is many people feel that Hendrix is indeed the best guitarist ever. I think the whole point of this thread was not to prove the argument, but rather just to have the dialogue. from this dialogue, for those who took it semi-seriously, on could find many other talented guitarists. why is hendrix the best? because he took a little piece of what made every OTHER guitarist before him the greatest, and combined them. thus, he became a hybrid of all of the greatest players.... and from Zappa, hendrix learned how to use the Wah during solos, but I would have to say that Henrdix did way more with the wah the zappa did.... its too bad hendrix image was destroyed by the record companies just like Black Sabbath...

amazing guitarist. not keen on him wanking off though.
i much prefer the experience stuff, and i dont think this is to do with noel and mitch. more to do with the band being produced/controled alot to get along well with the charts and make some money for the fucks who apparantly took it all before jimi saw it. who was that guy controlin from the back? chas chandler was it? whoever. i think hendrix, when controled can write fucking ace songs, play them in a short 3 or 4 minute space of time, condense his guitar skills into really great sorter bits rather than really long wanky boring bits that acid freaks can shake their hands to and come away with a great pop song with quality musicianship that is all extremely passionate and has alot of appeal in alot of different forms. after he went off after the exp, he was kinda left to do what he liked, which was twiddle around like a spaz on stage for far too long with nothing in it apart from he'd obviously practiced alot to be that good at doing something that pointless and crap. sometimes, people with skill need controlling in order to get the best results. i think i do, but id just not listen. i wouldnt have used full stops if were saying it either. |

Saying "It's only Jimi Hendrix" when you are talking about rock guitarists is like saying
"It's only procreation" when your child is born.

I mentioned this elsewhere, but jimi hendrix's favorite guitarist before his death was zoot horn rollo from captian beefheart.
Just figured that fit our conversations from earlier. What if Beefheart hadn't have dropped out of Woodstock '69... |

Hey, just want you all to know that I can now play a barre chord without it sounding like a dud firework. Not exactly inventing the wheel, but I'm rather pleased with myself to be honest. Give me a week or so and nodoubt i'll have mastered the Freebird solo ... with my teeth.
