Yeah, I felt compelled to mention 6 but didn't for whatever reason. I really enjoyed 6, far more than 4 here. I do like that it's a short game though, I feel like I'm halfway through it already.

Yeah, that was really awkward to get used to. I'm used to taking a few seconds to consider what to do (when using magic anyway), but this one kind of just pushes you along. That was weird. One thing I really hate about this game though is it's random battle system. Now these are common in plenty of console rpgs but in this one I don't know what the hell they were thinking, it just happens WAY too often. All too regularly I'll finish a battle and take one step and get into another battle right away. I don't even mind the leaps in difficulty the game takes or how it makes you use certain characters, I actually kind of like the latter because of the way the story effectively removes characters from the game. I won't say killed because these characters will have every opportunity to return and I'm sure they will. The game is just so bland. The characters and story are paper thin. Golbez has to be one of the lamest FF villains. There's nothing to write home about in the gameplay. It's fine though, it's definitely better than a number of RPGs, like uh, Arcana or something. You hit pretty much all of the best RPGs for the SNES ASP, so I won't bother to retread it, except I'll add Lufia, that game is great. So the Dragon Quest series is pretty good? I never knew really what to think about it. I know a guy who owns the first one and he likened it to doing nothing but leveling up, killing monsters and what not. Which doesn't really sound like its for me. Would you say the series expands well beyond that? And I'd love to play Snatcher.

Dragon Warrior IV for the NES (A remastered version came out not too long ago on the DS) is my favorite DW/DQ game. There is leveling up involved, but when you level up you are on top of the world. The leveling up sound is an angel in my ear. I grew up so frustrated with that game that when I finally beat it I dorkingly feel like I accomplished something. I suggest downloading the ROM and playing the first chapter or two Mecha. (All of the NES versions are way too expensive and most of the save batteries are long dead)
And I did notice how frequent the random battles are in FFIV compared to other RPGs. The worst to me was Earthbound Zero.... You sometimes would change the direction you're facing and you encountered a battle. And since you only have Ninten for a while, the battles are literally "I attack you, you attack me, repeat, heal afterwards". I'm glad Earthbound changed the format around. ~Jeremy~

I that that first Smash Bros will always be my favorite. Sure the later games have way larger rosters which allows for more diversity. But the simplicity of that first game is so charming and I don't think it's been topped yet.

If it was the only RPG I'd ever played, it still wouldn't be my favorite.
FFX is garbage. |

I have fond memories of playing FFX in middle school. I loved it at the time... its been too long since I've played it to really comment on its quality level as a game.

It's an excellent RPG. The graphics looked astounding for its' time, and the music was superb. The way you leveled up characters using the "Sphere Grid" system and the "Conditional Turn-Based Battle" system were both seminally brilliant. It's no wonder the readers of Famitsu magazine voted it the best game of all time in 2006. |

I do enjoy the sphere grid system. Beyond that, eh. The story is beyond moronic.

What's your deal, man? You work in these strange patterns. You'll start with you're bullshit, and as soon as everyone starts hating ya you calm down for a little while and start with the less-than-controversial "your thoughts on such 'n such band" posts, only to return to the negative vibes a few days later when no one is paying you much attention. WTF? Chemical imbalance must be a bitch. They make meds for that, ya know?

yeah really. Not to mention the fucking voice acting was beyond embarrassing and the goddamn cutscenes put me to sleep by the time it got around to actually playing the game. Oh and the stupid sphere system was convoluted and shit.
