Dark Knight and Batman Begins are both streaming right this very second on Netflix. No Dark Knight Rises, but the first two are definitely there. Just checked.

I just hope they don’t become part of some exclusive service because fuck that.

I agree, but what i'm saying is Netflix doesn't keep everything they add there forever, and both are slated to be no longer listed starting tomorrow. It's not some "exclusive service thing", at least not to the extent that i've ever heard, it's just their standard shuffling things in and out. Everyone has today to watch them, before they need to find the two somewhere else.

Hmm, that's what I thought. The reviews all seem good for it etc but I'd almost prefer the keep the book in mind and nothing else.

Reason I ask is cos I'm looking for a film set in New York for film night tomorrow. Pretty much all the classics I've seen already so I'm just trying to find that gem I haven't seen.

However! Just looking and there are two I haven't seen. Shaft and Saturday Night Fever. Gonna be one of the two I reckon.

Saturday Night Fever is one of my all-time favourite films. Too easily written off as a disco film, it's much more than that. Shaft is an ok period-piece but actually quite boring. Across 110th Street is similar but better, imo.

Some other great NY films that might have gone under your radar:

The original Taking of Pelham 123
The Wanderers - everyone knows The Warriors but The Wanderers would be great for a NY film night.
The original Maniac - very raw early 80s slasher film with a great sleazy Times Square vibe.

Even more left-field, the documentaries Paris is Burning, Bill Cunningham's New York and Precinct Seven Five.

Great. Now I'm in a dilemma between Wanderers and SNF

SNF is the better film but The Wanderers is a PERFECT choice for a NYC film night with friends. And if anything The Wanderers has an even better soundtrack.

Yeah, see, here’s where I’ll drop some nerd knowledge on you:
DC is starting an exclusive streaming service early this month (September), where original shows will be available and DC movies will be available and even comics. I’m just saying I hope DC isn’t pulling its properties because it only wants to offer them on the DC service.

I love DC, but even I would not buy that service.

Gotcha, I was not aware of that because for 95% of the superhero/comic movies, I couldn't give much of a crap about. I have some soft spot for the Batman movies from Burton's up to Nolan's. Even the bad 90s ones.

Some of them are pretty fun now. The Marvel ones at least. I think Thor: Ragnarok was one of the most genuinely funny movies of 2017, and Infinity War was great fun.

But yeah. It’s getting a bit much. Or already was. Not going to lump Nolan in with these films because his movies are Nolan movies featuring characters of comic book origin, not comic book movies. Honestly.

Soft spot for Burton’s Batfilms might not stand a 2018 viewing. They don’t hold up well. The mid-‘90s ones need not be mentioned.

Went with The Wanderers. Hmm, for the most part I enjoyed it. However, I felt like it didn't know what it wanted to be. From the incredibly dark scenes with the ducky boys (so bizarre), to the comedy of the football scene it was up and down. Karen Allen was great in it though.

Then that bit with the Dad "we've killed him! Let's go!!" I mean I'm not looking for realism here but good lord!

One of the friends who had already seen Saturday night fever said that this was more depressing than SNF. Dunno if I saw it as depressing. There were elements of it but not overly depressing.

Shit, sorry. I've never picked up on anything depressing in it. Poignant maybe, but not depressing. There's actually a book out about The Ducky Boys, who were apparently a real gang. Ace Frehley from Kiss also talks about being a member in his autobiography. And the book the film was based on, by Richard Price, is literally my all-time favourite novel. But I love the film in its own right.

Don't apologise! He's an odd one anyway so take no notice of his opinion. I don't.

The wongs bit was funny I'll say that. Like I said before, for the most part I enjoyed it. Others not as much. The football scene when the ducky boys turn up do you reckon that was a The Birds reference?
