Not rock-opera. Classical opera. Mozart and Monteverdi. Do you listen? If so, why? I like it on video but it is too expensive live. Plus, it's not American.

Don't the NY Met do live simulcasts to certain cinemas? I know we get them played here a few weeks after the event, but as far as I am aware they do so live simulcasts in NY.
Anyway Wagner's RIng Cycle is my favourite followed by Kurt Weill's Seven Deadly Sins... Although my favourite piece is the duo from Dilibe's Lakme. |

i've been there a lot as a kid. my mother took us to the general rehearsal: same as the real thing but a lot cheaper (you should inform if those are open at your local opera, sometimes they have arrangements for students and such)
it's the same with all classical music. i can appreciate it and it's been around all my life (both my parents are or were involved in classical music: my mother is a musician and my dad used to organize concerts) but i don't know much about it. oh yeah i've been in the opera choir for a year or two as a kid. |

no.. I do wish I had a greater appreciation for it though. It's something I've semi been around, but never seemed to have the time for.

simulcasts do happen on saturdays and wednesdays in chelsea at the movie theater. but it's twenty bucks.
i am listening to a monteverdi opera on the radio right now. studied some in college but was rather blown away by the musical technicality. that was 11 years ago. still have my notes. interesting. my mom took me to a faust opera as a kid. when i was starting to listen to opera as a college student, my girlfriend questioned the language barrier. |

It's on my list of things to do attend a opera. The season in Boston begins in September and runs till November if I remember correctly.
