Since you like Polvo and the Fellers, I'd check out Sun City Girls, Caroliner (both those bands have connections with the Fellers), Thinking Plague (who are like no wave prog), Bride of No-No (who are like prog no wave), and Truman's Water (very Polvo like... but jazzier).
Since you like Mission of Burma, Scratch Acid, and Drive Like Jehu, I'd reccomend Squirrel Bait (like Porky did), Bastro, Swell Maps (for their art punk stuff not so much their art noise stuff), Distorted Pony, Gaji (awesome Japanese Jesus Lizard-like band), Limited Express (Has Gone)... Since you like Arab on Radar and Hella, I'd reccomend the excellent but terribly-named Giraffes? Giraffes! (arty math rock stuff -- really good), Coachwhips (super-loud, super-noisey garage rock with an organ), Phantom Limbs (evil circus organ punk stuff...), and Six Finger Satellite (you probably already know 'em, but seeing "arab on Radar" made me think of the crappy Chinese Stars and yeah).. Since you like Polysics, and I can't say this enough, listen to Spoozys. Similiar band but better. Since you like Spiritualized and Spacemen 3, check out Methadrone, Stars of the Lid, and Band of Susans. Some stuff I think you'd really like is Farmers Market (like early Naked City but more talented), Secret Chiefs 3 (by far the best band around right now), Estradasphere (insanely insanely talented band), Don Salsa (well, the first song is 31 minutes long and combines nearly every genre of music ever in it). I've been listening to Pit Er Pat, Plastic People of the Universe, Cyro Baptista, Synapse, John Fahey, and A-Frames lately. Excited by the new Experimental Dental School, I'm listening to all their stuff... those are all good bands. But more than anything, Thinking Plague! That's the best band!!! Listen to 'em. |

once again atsonicpark shows everyone up. anyways, truman's water, squirrel bait, and methadrone are all great, underrated bands. i listened to spoozys on your request, theyre good and all, but i still like polysics way more, theyre like a thrash devo, that whole concept stokes me.

no, that was just a random list of the albums I listen to, and most of those, who are still alive, I have seen in the past two years, and some like pato and don carlos and itals and wadi gad are upcoming this month. I honestly do not know by ear or even casual reference any of the groups people talk about on this board, and I haven't for at least three years now.

This man speaks the truth. 'A History of Madness' is one of my favorite albums of all time. atsonicpark, have you listened to any solo albums by Bob Drake (a sometimes member of TP)? If not you should check him out, I think you would like his music. A bit more demented than the Plague but equally as dark. Good stuff! |

I don't get the whole "I listen to this genre" thing. There is so much music in the world. It's breath taking sometimes. I'd be pretty bored with music if I only listened to one genre. Staying in one genre means getting attached to pretty mediocre stuff quickly.
BTW, thinking plague are pretty damn cool |
