Oh, I so love you too much. He's my favourite of that little circle of 'minimalists'. La Monte Young is too difficult to get hold of, Terry Riley is a bit... meh... Reich and Glass are patchy (18 and Einstein are great though) and anyone who counts Part is an idiot (Part deserves some kind of God-hood). I've yet to hear anything I didn't like of Palestine.
I saw him last year doing this two piano thing... in all of my life I have never seen a more consumate performer - he did this little ad-hoc speech at the beginning, and he had all his little toys with him. Hilarious. And then did this most beautiful two steinway grand peice that was un-be-fucking-lievable.

Thanks for this. He's been on my ever growing list of 'must-listen-to' for a while now.

Music for Big Ears is a lovely place to start. Or at least it's where I started.
Anyone have any idea how to pronounce his first name? I go for Shar-lee-man-ye, but I've no idea if this is right.

That's how I would say it (Glice's way).
Weird really that you don't think about pronunciation until you have to say a word. My girlfriend said "What's that racket?" and that was the first time I had to actually say his name out loud. |

Yeah, I changed my mind about this pronunciation for no decent reason a year or so ago. My favourite one was pronouncing 'Unwound' [Un-wow-nd] as Un-woo-nd (like a cut). I still call Shostokovich Shos-toko-vich (rather than Shost-o-ko-vich)

thank you, i have also been meaning to listen to his music someday...
i pronounce Charlemagne in the same way i pronounce Charlemagne when i want to talk about Carolus Magnus in French (does not happen that often, i'm afraid)... and i will probably always pronounce it that way, no matter what. |

I would pronounce it this way as well. That must be the right way, despite what the man himself says. He didn't invent the name you know! |
