In a much publicized incident, Che got into an argument with his bandmates during a show in Athens, Georgia while touring in support of Snowing Sun in October 2004 and proceeded to pack up his gear and drive the band's van to Chicago alone, leaving the others stranded. The remaining members of Bellini promptly replaced Che with Girls Against Boys drummer Alexis Fleisig, borrowed a van from the band OXES and managed to complete the tour. Damon Che has not worked with Bellini since.

I know Damon. He's not a dick. But I could see how someone could come to that conclusion. He's far from being a Saint, and most people (myself included) get put off by him at first. The Bellini thing was a long time coming, and it wasn't completely his fault. He was at a low point in his career, and from what I understand the other members of Bellini were constantly making fun of him for his beliefs. A lot of bridges have been burned in the community for him, and I'm sure it's hurt him a bit. I'm sure he'd rather have Thee Speaking Canaries and Don Cab on more recognized labels than they are now. |

Ah okay, good, glad to hear he's not a dick. Just an easy impression to get considering some of the things people say about him. Also, what do you mean "recognized labels"? Record labels? Relapse is a pretty big label for Don Cab to be on... |

Yeah, but they used to be on Touch and Go, which is much more popular among the Pitchfork readers.

New Don Cab? What incarnation are we talking about here? Because I haven't liked anything since World Class Listening Problem enough to actually buy it, and I've more or less stopped thinking of them as a band. Whatever they're doing now, it is puke-balls & piss compared to everything up to and including American Don.
The good ol' days are long fucking gone. |
