It's part of their marketing scheme, cynical and calculated as all fuck, to sell their bullshit cancer drink to people who wish to become "cool"

Red Bull Music Academy has some fairly interesting online lecture/seminar things from some pretty interesting people, a lot of them are of no interest to me (house DJs, etc) but there are some pretty decent talks by hiphop people like one of the Shocklees (Bomb Squad), Chuck D, DJ Premier, MF Doom, etc.

They've been giving out a free fanzine everyday at my subway stop The Daily Note, yesterday was a How SY saved my life type article, MOnday a cover story on Public Enemy at Rikers in 89, and the 1st issue Brien Eno in NYC in the 70's and 80's. Supposed to be 22 issues in all...
Rob, they've bought me off! |

It looks like you can download them here...
http://www.redbullmusicacademy.com/dailynotenyc apparently they will be streaming live on the internet. I'd like to go to this but the 4 am end time just isn't doable on a school night... |

Cool, thanks for the link.
I was looking through their upcoming shows and some of them look pretty great, and so cheap too. Normally, I have nothing nice to say about totally unashamed merging of commercialism and art/music but going see Stephen O'Malley, Pete Swanson and Body/Head for 8 bucks or Four Tet for 5 is a real treat. |

it's worked for the cigarette companies and cigarettes are definitely a staple when it comes to cool. Shitty, sure...but being healthy/honest/happy isn't and never will be cool.
