The band, not the drug. Are we liking of them, yes? You like them pretty man guitars, yes?
I'm finding myself quite enjoying them. Which is odd, because they are very post-rock, which I usually hate. But anyway. You guys should listen. "Heyyyyy. Listen to Codeine"

I'm actually quite frightened because someone, somewhere is able to read my mind.A few days ago i was going to start a thread about them because i adore this band and for the love of bleeding Jesus on a cross,i don't understand why they don't get more of a mention on this or any other forum. At the time these talented chaps were about the term post-rock wasn't as annoying(in fact it wasn't even a genre) as it is now so i'll forgive them anything.Good work there. For whoever doesn't know who they are,get this first as it will enchant you no end: http://www.debaser.it/resize.aspx?pa....jpg&width=250 |

One does wonder if anyone knows a band called Chavez that used to put records out on Matador.

I'm not familiar with Chavez but I do know Matador used to (I haven't checked for a million years) have a pretty astounding roster of understated goodness.
Codeine, I've had for a while, but I didn't really really enjoy it until fairly recently. It's always the same with subdued music. Definitely recommended for Slint/ Mogwai/ Low fans, which I imagine is a lot of people round these parts.

Codeine!!
I have been listening to Codeine for EVER, since I found the Frigid Stars LP sometime around 1993-94. I own all their shit. They make me feel insane. I spontaneously broke into a deep cry driving home from work one day listening to the song THREE ANGELS/ and codeine, if you want to classify, are NOT post-rock, but one of the original progenitors of SLO-CORE (and my personal favorite. they ROCK in an extremely slow and subsumed way)

matador is really awful these days, bland college rock for studes. chavez are ok in my book, not amazing mind, ok. "break up your band" is a phat tune though.

i first saw chavez on beavis & butthead, they were like "this video has everything, if you like dudes in lion costumes, there you have it, if you like to see naked dudes, you have that too, and if you like bands that suck, it has that too"
ride the fader is a good album, quite enjoyable. i can't say i'm familiar with codeine but they have been on my "should listen soon" list. |
