Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) (US) + Kurt Vile & The Violators (US)

--

THURSTON MOORE ON
A legend of the U.S. alternative rock and noise rock creator of coming to Argentina to present his latest album "Demolished Thoughts" (Matador Records, 2011), and highly praised his latest release, an album so hypnotic and intimate. A job that could locate near its predecessor, 'thress Outside The Academy' (2007). But the restless steps Thurston Moore paths make it more risky venture: Beck's hand in the production, his acoustic guitar and his voice flow and mingle with a web of atmospheric sounds of harps, violins and percussion. Thurston is a founding member of Sonic Youth with Lee Renaldo and Kim Gordon for 3 decades and was a singer, songwriter and guitarist of the band until today. Collaborated on numerous musical projects and recorded over a dozen solo albums, and is the founder of the record label Ecstatic Peace! It's kinda weird no one from Buenos Aires posted a comment about Thurston's show last night. I might as well do it and get it over with. The venue was pretty crowded, a lot of people were waiting for Kurt Vile, who opened for Thurston. I didn't know them and I gotta say it had been a while since I'd seen so much hair on a stage in one night! Their show was pretty cool and much louder than I expected. Tonight Thurston will be the opening act for Kurt. Thurston's show was infinitely better than I had anticipated, seeing as he's touring in support of Demolished Thoughts. I thought the gig would be quieter but I guess after all these years I should have known better.
The setlist was really great. These are the songs he played, in random order cause I wasn't fortunate enough to grab the scribbled setlist and my short term memory is lousy.
Orchard Street
Never Day
Amigo (Fri/End)
In Silver Rain
Mina Loy
Groovy and Linda
It's Only Rock and Roll (But I Like It)
Circulation
Blood Never Lies
Ono Soul
Cindy (Rotten Tanx) (introduced as a song by The Beatles)
Pretty Bad
See-Through Playmate

Those were my thoughts too when I saw him in May last year, but it was all acoustic then and the band also included Mary Lattimore on harp. He only switched to electric a couple of months ago (no idea when, doesn't matter either). Guess he got bored himself
Thanks for the review!
