i haven't listened to them in forever but i just busted out four minute mile yesterday and forgot how good it is. anything after that album pretty much sucked. i guess i still have a soft spot for mid to late 90's indie/emo rock. the first promise ring album is good too and i still like elliott.

Haha I dunno man. This band isn't very good. Might as well talk about Piebald or something while we're at it. Though in all honesty, "Nothing Feels Good" by Promise Ring was pretty cool. I used to be big into this type of music as a freshman in high school.. but now I dunno... The only bands I even like that are even HALF-WAY associated with that scene were Sunny Day Real Estate and Cap'N Jazz..
Though I'll take that "emo" over whatever the hell they call "Emo" today. |

You know, I never knew Bob Weston produced that album.
That's actually really awesome. |

This record is their best, but ... well .. I dunno, I had some kid in a Braid shirt burn me all their stuff years ago so I might have to give it another listen.
Didn't they cover a Pixies song? "Alec Eiffel" I think? That was a good cover. |

Cap'n Jazz is possibly one of the most unlistenable bands to ever gather an actual fanbase.
This whole period is a dark chapter in Independent Rock Music. |

i listen to them just fine and the music is amazing. you're undermining great lyrics and amazing guitar work by both Davey Von Bohlen and especially Victor Villareal. that band practically changed my life. i couldn't disagree with that statement more than i already do. i used to listen to the the get up kids and the promise ring and still dig those records. most of them contain many great songs that haven't lost their appeal to me over the years, even as i got into "better" music. "something to write home about" also has some great songs. "i'm a loner dottie, a rebel" and "the company dime", specifically. |

Doesn't matter how good the lyrics are when they're sung with that voice.

i don't dislike tim's voice. but i could see why someone would.
in fact, if you think he's bad in cap'n jazz, you would hate Make Believe. though he sounds good on the Owls record. and most of Joan of Arc. |

i think his voice fits cap n jazz really well. i mean when i first heard it that was one of my favorite parts about the band. after i got their discography (yeah i was a late boomer for that band), i couldn't stop playing it for the longest time.
