knowing you, the entire country would suck in winter. snow's pretty for awhile but the cold goes down to the bone.
unless....er....you mean yr wintertime, which means it's summer there....and you would still find it cold. haha it's pretty! cold, but pretty! ps: it's the capitol of British Columbia. |

I've lived in Canada my whole life. I've been lots of places in it, but not to either of the destinations you mentioned.
I'm going to take your question about central heating at face value. If you can find somebody in Canada who doesn't have central heating, I'd be very surprised. My favourite city is Vancouver.

Why? is it more fun? prettier? You've lived there forever so you wouldn't notice the cold as much I guess..

Well it could be nostalgia talking- I used to visit Vancouver all the time as a kid. Chinatown had cool stuff, Stanley Park had the zoo, and we just generally had a good time. I lived in suburban Vancouver briefly as an adult, and still enjoyed visiting Stanley Park, but Chinatown has gone downhill, as has East Vancouver (friend of a friend got mugged there- guy had a GUN). But yes Vancouver is beautiful, and there are museums and stuff. One thing I like about Victoria (which isn't a lot, it's kind of a snotty place) is the Royal British Columbia museum which is just amazing (again, the kid in me talking?). I am from BC originally and I miss it to this day. It's the kind of place that gets in your soul.

I am a museums and art galleries and 'odd but interesting places' kind of girl, so Vancuver sounds neat.
would visiting places in winter be totally out of the question? Would it be so snowy you can't go anywhere?

Are you Australian? Because I bet you'd find Vancouver still pretty cold in the winter. But as for snow and getting around... I wouldn't worry about that. It can get pretty cold there. The biggest problem if it snows in Vancouver is that it's quite hilly in parts, and can make roads too slippery to go down.
Is it out of the question to visit Vancouver in winter? I guess that's up to you. Would you be willing to visit New York in winter? I think the winter climate is about the same.

Yeh I'm Australian.. I think I'd rather visit New York in winter than in summer, I imagine a summer in a big city to be gross and stinky and a lot worse than winter. I just dont really know a lot about Canada or Canadian cities. I live in one of the colder Australian cities, but it isn't cold by world standards. It never snows in my city.. I've seen snow once, and that was when I went camping in the mountains.. erm is there okay public transport? if you can't use a car to get around in the winter can you still get around by train ? hmm
