edit - i dont think that piracy is really going to destroy the film or music industry. as much as i want this to happen i doubt very much that there will be as much of an impact as what the telly says.

Piracy existed long before there were torrent sites. I remember getting VHS copies of the latest blockbusters when I worked at a local video shop in the 80's. Also copied loads of vinyl records onto tape for my walkman.
Who hasn't.

Jon Lech Johansen alias DVD Jon pushed it to another level, by devising DeCSS (Content Scramble System), a program that decrypts DVDs.
