getting drunk got old to me real fast. The first time is always fun.. after that, meh, I dunno. I'd rather robo!!!!
anyway: Who Smokes? Girls. Boys. Women. Men. Everyone's thought about smoking. A lot of people smoke now. A great portion of the US. A great portion of North America. A great portion of the world are smokers. But a better question than who smokes... Why do these people smoke is the better question. It used to be thought that it was really cool to smoke, now it's not quite as hip and trendy as it used to be. It's no longer associated with silver screen stars and girls with short gold skirts with a cigrarette in one hand smiling and laughing while saying how great cigarettes are in the ad -- instead we see things like people on a boat smoking a cigarette, making sure not to obscure the huge warning ad that'll probably be the first thing to catch your eye, about how cancer and warped teeth will affect your image... Not to mention your stinky breath. And clothes. And hair! So when asked about who smokes, the topic of this report, the answer is: Just about everyone. Most of the world has tried it. Half of the world is smoking. And 35% of teens are smoking as well. That's a lot of statistics, but you have to ask: why do they smoke? The answer is classic; to take away bad feelings. To take away the pressures of getting your work done or the pressures of your boss always watching you. Or it could be something not even related to pressure -- you just want to relax. Sit back, take a drag, and waste away. Watch some TV. Flip through the channels for an hour or two, not caring because you are smoking, so it doesn't matter. A little-known fact is that women have always used smoking as a form of weight control. In a recent stufy at Harvard University (yes, THAT Harvard University...), there was a poll of 15,000 girls from 9-14 years of age. Those kids who smoked (17%) were also overly concerned about their weight. Girls who smoke are -- according to doctor studies -- more likely to be unhappy with their appearance and not satisfied with their image. Girls do it for weight or other stressful problems. And why do boys smoke? Well, it's always been that "cool" thing. "All the cool kids smoke". You know the image: A guy with slicked black blonde hair, a black leather jacket, rugged denim pants, always with a cigarette in his hand. Yeah, that may be some movie stereotype, but it's still true... Guys do it because they think it makes them cool. That's it. As for adults, almost all adults were hooked when they were kids and it's carried into their adult hood... And they grow close to the nicotine, like it's a true friend, and when they try to leave that friend, he still harasses the person, always calling on him and still wanting something though the person made it perfectly clear a long time ago that he didn't want anything to do with this new friend. Same with nicotine. Nicotine has been a "friend" for kids and then when they're adults and realize how immature it is to smoke, it's too late. Too late to turn back. But the tobacco companies are doing something about it. Another issue is money. It used to cost about 15 cents for a pack of cigarettes. Now it costs about $2-3. Advertising on TV no longer exists. The aforementioned print ads have big warnings. But is this really helping? But for some kids, it's not their fault. They are born craving nicotine. In 1994, another study of cigarettes were taken, and it was found that if your mom was smoking cigarettes during birth, you are four times more likely to smoke than you were previously were... That's crazy. TV, used to be a major source of advertising cigarettes, is now littered with anti-nicotine ads. Seems every time I turn on the TV I see some kind of anti-cigarettes commercial on. TheTruth.com has all kinds of facts about cigarettes and such -- a lot of them very interesting, in fact -- that they are using to show kids you shouldn't smoke. Such ads are like "400,000 - That's how many nicotine kills in one year. That's more than AIDS, suicide, murder, car accidents". Or "Every 9 seconds, a big tobacco company loses a customer." These ads all involve numbers, and they have proved some good points. But is anybody really listening? You tell kids not to smoke. They do it anyway. I'm not saying that the programs out there against smoking are bad. Most are very good actually. But unfortunately, not good enough to convince kids once and for all not to smoke. But the kids see their parents doing it. The kids see their peers do it. The kids see celebrities doing it. The kids don't understand what's bad about it. I guess kids are too young to understand concepts like lung cancer. Or emphazyma. Or broncitis. Or anything like that. But raising prices, pulling ads from TV and movies, anti-cigarette compaigns, and big warning signs don't mean anything. Those darn rebellious teens don't seem to care, as they still smoke. But through this whole report I've asked the simple question -- why do they still smoke? It's time to admit my version "the truth": I have no clue really! And this has been a common issue, but cigarettes, which are legal, are 5 times as deadly as marijuana, which is illegal. Why is that? I'm not saying marijuana should be legalized like every one is protesting, but shouldn't cigarettes be illegalized? Of course, this is not an opinionated report... This is about who smokes. And to sum it up in a nutshell, lots of people smoke. Too many people. And though everyone is dying from smoking and people try to quit with a "patch" or some "gum", it doesn't seem to matter as for just about all the smokers who quit each day there are probably just as many who start... So, who smokes? Lots of people... And they won't stop... It's debatable whether we should feel sorry for these people if they get sick. If they die. But maybe it's not all their fault... Maybe it's all our faults. Or maybe it's all opinions. Maybe it's none of our business. In conclusion of this report, I look at cigarettes as two things: Either if you smoke you're this really cool person as looked at by your peers. Or you're a stupid person that has to smoke because everyone else is doing it or because you think you're cool doing it. No one smokes to smoke. They all have a reason. I mean, though, if everyone jumped off a bridge, would you? Most people would say no, so why would you smoke because every one else is? I guess that's the question no one will answer and we'll never quite know. |

I smoked some DXM freebase, Adam. It was kind of lame, though. It gave me a terrible headache but I got pretty buzzed.

The party I was at was fun though. I hurt my foot dancing to an Animal Collective song.
